GalTrek™: The Akira and The Eximius

Star Trek Ship Hulls for GalCiv2

The Akira and The Eximius

(Click thumbnail images for larger version)

Polygon Count (triangles): 2,900 / 1,925
Defuse Mapping: None.
Light Mapping: Everything.
Normal Mapping: Nope.
Ship Builder Hardware Mounts: Yep.
In-Game Hull Size: Large.
Time spent on model : 1 hour / 1 hour..

The Akira isn’t my favorite model, but here it is due to user request. I just realized that this ship actually bares a striking resemblance to the NX (but, I guess everyone else already knew that already right?). The Eximius is a non-canonical federation ship created by Don Woligroski.

Those of you who are planning on using this hull pack, please go here and submit my form so that I can track how many people are into this sort of stuff.

To save a bit of time, I have recycled the same lighting rig that I used for the sovereign on both these models, so the highlights are similar.

Stay tuned for updates (use this form if you want to receive email updates when new ships are available).

Here is the list of ships so far. I plan to expand it where possible, and add some user requested ships.

Cargo: Oberth Model A (120m) [Finished. link]
Oberth Model B (120m) [Finished. link]
Tiny: Shuttle (~10m) [Finished. link]
Delta Flyer (Remade) (~10m) [Finished. link]
Small: Danube Runabout.
Medium: Magellan (?m) [WIP. Old ship link]
Defiant (120m) [Finished. link]
NX (225m)
Miranda (243m) [Finished. link]
Eximius (~300m) [Finished.]
Large: Intrepid (344m)

Cheers.

You finished the Sovereign? Brilliant. I'm not even a Trek fan and I'm loving these skins. Truly outstanding work, do you do this on your own or with a team?

eh, i dont really like the akira, but thats just me, it looks great, i just never really liked it as a ship, the exima is awesome, i like that its got a nice streamlined look that is just great. its nice to see the non canonical ships because it adds the extra flavor and new designs

I like all of these ships. I am keeping track of what has been ported over, and when a true mod folder comes out for Gal Civ II, I will upload the galTrek ships as well as the GalBylon ships as well.

It funny that the akria was around 3-4yrs before Ent NX. Just to show how little creative energy went into that show....
"Look we have a cool ship called the akria, lets change the warp engine design and stick a NX-01 Enterprise label and bame we have a new show, and a new ship.

Damn i hate enterprise...

Question - when you add Photon Torpedoes, etc to them in the real game, won't "the look" be destroyed? The weapon archectiture (shape of missile pods, etc) is angular and you stick a couple on the Enterprise, it will look funny. I really like the way the ships look, but to retain that look, you can't add any weapons or engines to them, can you?

jkstexas2005, good question. First, I plan on adding internal mount points to each ship, so some of the hardware won’t be seen. Second, Once you scale the hardware down to their smallest setting, you really can’t see them on the ships. Either way should preserve the “look” of these models.

Good. I was playing as the Dread Lords once, and, as you know, their ships have an organic look, and when I added photon torpedo tubes, which are rectangular in shape - let's just say, it was U-G-L-Y.

I find I end up liking the non conone ships more then most of the canon ship. That might just be me though.

Heh. Spot the fanwank ship.

Nice models, anyway. How are you implementing the hardpoints? It'd be neat if the 'drive' areas had recessed hardpoints, so you could stash your engine parts in there without spoiling the lines.

PS, nevermind. You're planning on doing that anyway.

Hard points are implemented using "dummy" objects in 3dsmax. I will scatter them around the ship in in case some people still want to use full sized hardware.

Mmm. I can't wait to get photons and phasers on these things : )

Mind linking the site you used as a reference for Star Trek SF Command. Loved the game and would like to check it out.

These are amazing. I'm a huge Star Trek Fan. I wish there was a way you could share your finished designs since I can't make a good ship in the design program. I look forward to your other designs as you finish them

Blackjac2000 , you can also download other people's GalCiv2 ships (xml) which use the galciv components. Check the library.

Spleeze,

I have to say that I was suprised not only at the speed with which you honored my request for an Akira, but even the fact you did one at all. It looks excellent, as do all your other ships.

Thanks,

Great work! Very nice. I also checked the link for the ark royal and very nice. Don't know where you get your schems from but I was thinking of doing this kind of work myself for X2 the threat, sadly it was way over my head, but I found this site http://www.shipschematics.net Link Some fairly nice ships there.
