Research Production

I don't know if this is a glitch or I'm misunderstanding how the economy starbases work.

In a game I just finished, my tech capital had a research capacity of 2513. I had the planet surrounded by starbases, giving it a 182% production bonus, all of which seems to have been ignored.

I had industrial spending at 100% and the research spending at 100%. But I was only spending 1057 in research for the whole empire. The civilization manager also showed I only had research production of 1057. The planet in question was only spending about 700-800 (I forget exactly how much).

hopw can you have research and military at 100%?

Also its been noted else where that the bonuses dont seem to effect research i dont know if they fixed it, i primarly use the starbases on production planets. Also the spending do the starbases I believe are a bonus and therefore free just like a racial ability.

Also further more you may be spending that much but if you recall from previous patch notes stardock stated that bonuses from economy bases and mining bases to your productions you would only have to pay for half i think it was of those bonuses.

So the economic window doesn't display your output it dsiplays how much your paying for the research output you have.

I had industrial spending at 100% and the research spending at 100%.

You cannot have 100% spending in both areas. The best you can do is 50-50.

maybe you just kind of maxed out the research capacity? I don't have the game yet and I only have the demo, so I honestly have no idea.

You can only get 100% TOTAL of your production capability, divided among the social, military and research production. If all those three sliders are at the max, you're producing 33% of the possible military output your planets would be capable of, 33% of the possible social output and 33% of the research output. You can see this in the area of the sliders. To get complete payoff on your research capability, you will have to forgo producing facilities and ships. Use focus to adjust individual planets' spending, for instance a planet with no starbase should either focus on social or research.

Having the spending slider at 100% means you don't cut further in the money you spend across your empire. Having it on 50% means you cut all production across all three types in half.

Well, do you mean your TOTAL industrial capacity was 100% or your SOCIAL AND MILITARY was at 100%? It makes a difference here. I read the post as TOTAL capacity was at 100% and research was 100%, which would give him full lab capacity (or should).

Yes, I believe the man (or woman) meant that spending was on maximum, and that 100% thereof was allotted to research.

Now, this is a very naïve approach to the problem, and I by no means know whether or not it's correct. But I believe the bonuses are additive, meaning that you would have the foruma below:

base * (sum of bonuses) = total

Now, you mentioned your technological capital was there, which adds 50%, and you had +182% from starbases. That would bring your bonus to +232%, or the total being 332% of your base. Your total was 700-800 (pick 750), so that brings your raw planetary production to about 225. That would be about 20 Neutrality Learning Centers or roughly 23 Discovery Spheres.

That sounds about right for a big planet.

Or have I misunderstood your question?

Tarbo's explanation makes sense, but just to elaborate, the number given for research spending does not equal total research, only base research. Anything from bonuses is 50% paid for and 50% free, but the amount you're paying is shown under "Bonus Research/Production" (or some similar title), not under research. So if the 232% total bonus is right, and the total research is 2513, you should be paying 757 under "Research" (for that planet) and 878 under "Bonus Research/Production" for the planet, so the total numbers you're seeing for spending seem to be pretty accurate.

To clear up the confusion, I meant that industrial capacity spending (the slider just below tax rate) was 100% and at the bottom research was at 100%, military and social were at 0%. It was late game, I had 4x the military rating of anyone else and I was going for a tech victory, so there was nothing really for me to build.

Ok .... so the planet screen was correct, that the planet was producing 2513 worth of research ... it just wasn't paying for that much research..... Right?
