Serial Number Hell, Game won't run with patch installed

Hi,

installed the patch, but it wont accept either my game or collectors edition serial number
I've tried entering in it under "register products" on stardock to no avail, anyone know how to get the game working
with the patch? this is driving me insane. emailed tech support monday night all I got is a form letter response.
would sure like to play with the patch.
