GalTrek™: The Arkroyal

Star Trek Ship Hulls for GalCiv2

The Arkroyal

(Click thumbnail images for larger version)

Polygon Count (triangles): 556 ( ! )
Defuse Mapping: None.
Light Mapping: Everything.
Normal Mapping: Nope.
Ship Builder Hardware Mounts: Yep.
In-Game Hull Size: Large.
Time spent on model : 1 hour.

What can I say; I am a sucker for non-canonical ships. This bad girl caught my eye on the Starfleet Command 3 forum, and I had to have it. The poly count is low, and I’ve strapped it with just a single 1024x1024 texture, so we’ll see some nice performance.

Also, those of you who are planning on using this hull pack, please go here and submit my form so that I can track how many people are into this sort of stuff.

Here I have used a simple lighting pass in 3ds max.

The ship looks pretty good in-game. I am looking forward to seeing some player action shots. Oh! I plan to put out a teaser video of a fleet battle at some point, consisting of a variety of federation ships spanking some hairy Drengin ass. I’ll keep you posted

Again I am using fully lit textures, so no lighting done within the GalCiv2 engine itself. Since I am able to produce GalCiv2 ready high quality models using these Starfleet Command community mod ships in much less time then I took me previously, I plan on releasing many more ships in this mod pack then the ships in the table bellow. Stay tuned for updates (use this form if you want to receive email updates when new ships are available).

One more thing. I have run some tests to determine the minimum video ram required to run a game with this mod. I have tested the game on both a 64MB and a 256MB video card, using cubes mapped with –different- 5000x5000 (25,000,00 pixels) textures. The 64MB card was able to handle two different cubes (50,000,000 pixels total) on-screen at once, and a third gave it the runs. Each of my ships use about 2,500,000 pixels worth of textures, meaning a 64MB card should be able to handle about 20 –different- ships on-screen at once. You can have as many instances of each ship as you like (they share texture memory), and you can have anything else you want off-screen, but for on-screen texture usage, I think a 64MB card should be sufficient, but it will definitely be a minimum requirement.

If you wouldn’t mind, please post your video card stats so I can get a rough idea of what platform to shoot for.

Here is the list of ships so far. I plan to add a great deal more.

You do good work. I would like to make a couple of requests though. I'd love to see a Nebula Class ship and an Akira. Perhaps also a Steamrunner and Saber classes too. Any plans to do non-federation ships?

I will see about a Nebula class (never liked the class much myself actually). I am working on the Akira right now. No I do not yet plan to do any non-fed ships. If i did, then this would never end and I would essentially be an unpaid member of stardock. : )

So many good ships. Let's hope I can keep the production up, and we can have a 20-30 ship pack.

There are other people working on ST mods. I know I've seen some Klingon ships somewhere.

nice look, i like the lights on the top, and the 4 nacelles non canon ships are sometimes the best because people are able to just be creative. can't wait for that almost on the soveriegn to be -finished. keep it up, that 20-30 pack of ships sounds great.
