Latest Microsoft Update Breaks program - even if you don't have Nvidia card - Beware

I have an Intel Video card and a Dell Latitude laptop, and after the update, I get "Application Error" immediately after double-clicking the GalCiv2 icon. I hate Bill Gates. I am now going to try re-installing the video. I hope it fixes things.

It's not the updates causing your problems, it's you or your computer.
Maybe it's time for a reformat and reinstall? A virus check or malware check?

I have all the updates and they have not caused me any problems. So it is not something inherent in the updates themselves.

Before you go blaming Microsoft and Bill Gates for all the problems, maybe a check on your own computing habits might be in order.

You sound like a jealous little school boy. If you hate Windows and Microsoft so much, there are alternatives. Ever hear of Linux?
No one forces you to use Internet Explorer. Or Windows or any other Microsoft product for that matter.

Grow up.

Microsoft has NOT developed a single application on its own. They are a marketing giant. Every program that Microsoft now holds the distribution rights to was once owned and developed by another company. Due to business owners wanting to extract every last drop of use out of their investment in computer hardware and software, every new OS has to be backward compatable, which they are not, and they continually write software to protect the user from themselves, which cripples the power user and the technoly savy people. Ask any computer support person about the different platforms and os's and software that they are supporting for business. There are still businesses out there, small, which are still running DOS and Lantastic, and operating there store profitably. The owners do not want to invest 30 to 50 thousand dollars to upgrade hardware and software to the latest buggiest software.

Bill gates is not evil, he is a great marketer, and a savy trader, (thief), depends on your point of view, who has built a large dominating company for the time being.

An operating system should be small, compact, and efficent. Windows is none of this. Windows is the swiss army knife, looks great, kinda useful, but the actual tools would be better.

Who did they buy Microsoft Bob from?

They deserve their money back.

Its funny to read all of these posts that denigrate Microsoft while many of you have probably supported other software with similar problems just because you liked it. GalCiv2 for example has had some problems and when someone complains, I have seen many of you say its because of all the different kinds of hardware you have to live with in the PC world. Think of the issues Microsoft has to deal with and the hardware universe they are fighting. Programming in many cases fails when the programmer does not anticipate what a user might do. It is difficult to predict all cases and is especially difficult to predict when there are those out there that are trying to maliciously break windows. If you think it is easy to cover all bases when programming, you have either not programmed very much or have only done small or very specialized programs. An OS such as windows encompasses so much that it is very difficult to take care of all the user issues while on top deal with the programmers that either don't know what they are doing or just don't care whether they are stepping on another program toes. If then you add that to the idiots out there that have no clue or the ones that do and try to break things, you start to get an idea of the scope of the issue. I by no means am a big fan of Microsoft but do know enough of the problem they have to understand the difficulty. The sheer number of problems increases with the size of the program and windows is large which probability says will make the number of bugs large. I have dealt with too many programs out there that have bugs to assume that Microsoft is the only one with them. The recent introduction of OS X is a case in point. It had its share of problems but the user base of Apple is small compared to Windows so this is not as well known. I can remember OS2 being so buggy that I could only install it on about 10% of the machines I tried it on.

Don't let you view of the money Bill Gates/microsoft has made color you judgement. Most programs you buy have bugs and people tend to only recognize that on ones they don't like. I do, however, advocate your right to complain when complaining is indicated. I just think that this subject has been beat to death for way too long.
