Question on Glactic menace event

Last night I got the event where the Arceans' "waning empire" had made some kind of discovery thet was destined to make them rulers of the galaxy if I didn't destroy them pdq.

They only had a couple of planets and no defense to speak of so I reluctantly took them out.

Has anyone ever ignored the warning or waited long enough to find out what was going to make them so invincible?

I think I know which one you're talking about.. it looks kind of like the even when someone uncovers a ranger or corvette? I have no idea what benefits they get and yes I have ignored it, but I can't remember what happened... although I know I didn't suddenly get crushed.

in GalCiv I this event gave the person getting it a 1% bonus to a random ability every turn ( I think this is correct.) So, you won't be crushed quickly atleast.

Yeah, I was a bit confused by this one.

In one game it was the Altarians who had it, and they were allied with quite alot of players, as I got the same event.

I 'd never seen it before so I started tooling up for the giant slugfest in order to crush them all. Eventually I took all the Altarian worlds, and was expecting to find some kind of artifact, but instead got... nothing....

I risked an all-out galactic war for this!!!

I guess it wasn't all so bad though, my desperate offensive kind of payed off as I had to destory all but one of the remaining races and I won an influence victory....

I was playing a game a while ago where the Torians got it. I left them till last to conquer, to see if anything happened. They did seem a bit harder to defeat I think, but then they would have had to have had some serious bonuses to stand up to the Uber-Dreadnought fleets I had running around by then.

I used to drop everything to take out who ever got this but the last game I had I ignored it but by then I was pretty much unstoppable.

In my current game the Yor just got this thing and I have to ignore this time as the Torians have 5 planets on my boarder with nothing but farms and embassies on them and their relations with me or hostile so they have to be my first priority.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it adds +1% to a random bonus every turn, so after 100 weeks they could have some pretty serious bonuses to soldiering, research, production, weapons, defense, hit points, planet quality etc etc

If you leave them for, say 1000 weeks, they could have more then doubled some of their abilities, making them pretty tough.

It's not game breaking, but the longer you wait, the tougher they get.
