Tech Names

Why do some techs use the enhancement naming system (Deflectors, Enhanced Deflectors, Advanced Deflectors...) and others use the roman numeral naming system (Shields, Shields II, Shields III)?

I'm not really opposed to either, but sometimes the tech tree skips a step with enhancement (Basic, Enhanced, Advanced, Expert, Ultimate, Superior). For instance Miniaturization follows perfectly and Tri-Strontium skips a lot, but roman numeral (such as Warp) are right on.

Shouldn't shorter tech branches use roman numerals?

Well... I think that, instead, Tech names should have different names.... it's boring to see Laser I, II, II, IV etc etc....
But well I think that you're right : now they're a bit "confused"

Personally i would prefer it if the 'family names' (lasers, plasma etc) all had the same attack potential. So all lasers had attack 1, all phasers has attack 2... Currently I can't remember which one is which. Moddable of course ...

Of course, even better if it here was some sort of encyopedia in the game, as hinted ......
