Preferred Tech Speed?

What tech speed do you prefer to play at? I've been playing normal, but I think I might slow it down. I just don't like the fact that you can fully perfect your laser design in one year's time. I rather prefer thinking that the galaxy is BIG and complicated and even advanced technologies take time to research. Granted the tech tree is huge, but there are times where I still feel like I'm always racing through it. Any thoughts?

Hi!
I like having tech slow. Keeps older ship designs usefull for a longer time, and gives me a more "realistic" feeling.

My first 1.1 beta (IIRC beta 2) game was with slowest tech and no tech trading. It was weird. In mid game AIs were fighting with waves of heavy fighters with beam attack 2. Some haven't got a single trade line. Some had only basic instalations on planets. Defenses on ships were rare like gold-pressed latinum . My medium hulls with 5 beam attack and 1 armour ruled the day.

The AI was IMO at such a big disadvantage I never again started the game with the same settings. Either I allow tech trade, or I set tech speed to slow or normal. However it looks like the AI now can better pick the techs they need to develop its infrastructure, so I'll probably start an new game with the same settings as were in the first 1.1 beta game.

Vary slow, since even thin im getting a tech late game every 4-10 turns depending on what it was.

As the turns take longer and longer, the last thing I want to do is be forced to wait 10 turns to get the next weapon/banking/etc tech. Normal is a good speed, as it doesn't cripple the AI for making poor choices.

I like very slow. U still seem to get techs quickly with a lot of players but u can actually USE the techs instead of them being redundant even before u have built anything that uses that particular tech advance. The gameplay is better in my opinion.
