Galactic Civilizations II v1.11 released

Performance, memory optimization, AI

https://www.galciv2.com/Downloads.aspx

As previously mentioned, while most people were happy with 1.1, the performance improvements and other features we added ate up memory that not all users had available which in turn cased out of memory and other problems for those users.

Rather than simply remove the caching and other performance boosts, we re-engineered saved games and did intensive profiling to opimize things. So v1.11 should be faster AND use less memory than 1.1.

We also made some AI tweaks and other gameplay tweaks.

You can view the full change log here.

The next stop is v1.2 which is mostly about making modding easier for both modders and users. If you check the library, there's already a lot of really cool stuff available. The modding support in 1.2 will make it much easier to organize mods/total conversions.

You can get 1.11 either through Stardock Central or as a stand-alone download.  Have fun! !FROGCARE!

anyone know a link to see gal civ in the top 10?

Link

Side note: I updated by manually ownloading the patch, but afterward, Stardock Central still wanted to update the tutorials, movies, and multimedia. Not sure why the downloaded patch file doesn't update all of the game.

Anyone know of a mirror for this patch? I find downloading directly from the site insanely slow.

YES, FINALLY! No more fighting to get my neutrality learning centers built!

Only potential comment (unsure if reproducable):
It seems that when I discover a tech and automatically go to the tech selection split-screen, it is focused on the wrong section of the tech map. Again, don't know if this is reproducable or if others are having this issue.

WISH:
This could be my stupidity. I wonder if there is a way to prioritize manufacturing type improvements ahead of all others, always?

Do I have to type in my serial number for the 3rd time to run the patch?

Will a copy and paste work this time?

I sense a lot of negativity in these comments so far.

First thing that came to my mind: 'That was fast'

Although I only read about the 1.1 problems a couple days ago.

Once you've entered your serial for one patch, you don't need to for future patches.

Yeah, a buildings priority upgrade governer bit similar to Gal Civ 1 would be nice.

Also being able to specialise a colonys production from the colony management screen would also be very time saving.

Great the 1.1 patch realy improved gameplay. I'm still getting some minor bugs (wrong focus, as someone mentioned above), but it's realy great Keep up the good work....

I would like you to agree to amend your comment Brad. If any user chose a huge universe and built a huge ship with a full allotment of weapons and defenses and had less than 2 GB of physical memory, they indeed would have experienced this problem later in their games. To characterize the problem as experienced by say 15% of users is highly inaccurate. That implies the problem was the users configuration. It was NOT the user configuration that was at issue. It was a problem of memory management that would have affected ALL users who chose the huge universe and built huge custom designed craft if they had anything less than 2 GB of memory installed.

The same thing happened to me two times. Then I replaced the Serial Number for GalGiv II in Stardock Central that had worked for the previous updates with a new one and the update worked.

BUG: When I loaded a Metaverse game with a gigantic map and everything abundant, created with v1.1 into v1.11, the explored space was returned to Fog of War. After re-scanning the space, resaving under v1.11, and loading back into v1.11, the space remained explored.

OK..... I installed the update and I still have the same memory issues during my saves. I am losing my save file in the process as well. The computer I use should be more then powerfull enough to play this or any game and its a good clean windows install only used for gaming. I am playing a Gigantic Galaxy with abundant planets and I cant go more then 5 turns without a save crash. I am still crashing with about 1.67 - 1.71 of pagefile useage and I have a 4gig static page file. My computer has 1gig of ram as well and is a P4 3ghz with 800fsb and a radeon X800 pro with 256mb ram.... this is a powerfull computer and should have no problem playing the game. The patch had NO affect on helping me at all. Please help........ If I did not lose my save game slot I could live with the issue but having to constantly repeat turns has become very tiresome. I want to play on a gigantic galaxy as well. I love a long drawn out game and I simply can't enjoy one......

Account information invalid as well. Tried several times.

same here. can't update. says my serial is wrong.
Just download and install from the site. That's the only way I could work around the problem.
here too. account information is invalid. maybe a sdc problem not a galciv2 problem?
i got the account information invalid message in Stardock Central as well ... but strangely enough it downloaded the tutorials, movies and multimedia?! So all I did was click on the Galactic Civilisations II line and the little update button popped up so I clicked it and it downloaded no problemo?! ... I'm guessing that the serial was incorrectly sent in the first place and resent properly when I clicked the update button .... yay ....

In regards to the account information invalid  error we are looking at a couple possible isues.

  1. We are currently experiencing some database issues which is causing intermittent connection problems to the database.  So when Stardock Central is trying to validate your account information it is unable to do so and thus returns this error.  Trying again a minute later may work.

  2. You are attempting to download the Beta of GalCiv2.  However, there is no current beta available so an error is returned in the validation process which gets interpeted by Stardock Central as an Account Information Invalid error (yes we need to update our error codes). Now the issue is why is SDC attempting to download the beta when its not available.

It's possible that your data files are out of date.  The current version of GalCiv 2 is v1.11.029. If you are seeing any other version then your data files are not up to date and need to be updated. To update  your data files go to Tools->Settings.  Select the "Interent" section and then click on the "Refresh XML Data" button to refresh Stardock Central's datafiles.

Or you might be able to just turn of "Show pre-release versions" as a possible work around.

We are still invistaging these issues but if you could let us know if this information is helpful and what version you are attempting to download that could help us too.
