Tech Tree needs a little work/ adjustment

I find in most games by the time the action starts everybody owns all the techs and its just blackhole weopons against blackhole weopons, the rest of the tech tree merely being rungs on the ladder to the inevatablre blackhole tech.
Maybe if the techs where shared out among the race's at the start of game so that most techs where locked of to you. The only way to gain these techs then would be to steal or exchange, same with all other race's, I think then maybe the mid and lower techs would be of more use. I dont know, your the game disigners and are a lot more likely to know of a more intresting use of the tech tree, but I think it would give the game-play more challange if these higher techs where harder to come by.

I don't really know what Im talking about do I ?

wow... the action takes a really long time to start in your games... What difficulty do you play on? Maybe you should just research tech victory insead of weapons tech and win without firing a shot if your able to keep the galaxy stable that long.

Try playing with tech rate on slow or very slow - I think that makes it quite a bit more interesting.

Seriously, I've never even reached blackhole weapons of any type in a game, and I rarely take my first opportunity for victory. (I usually skip chances for political victory, etc.) If techs are comming that fast, you can always set the technology speed to slow or very slow. Personally I wish there was a slower speed than very slow, but there are other ways to limit technology, like playing in a smaller galaxy with less total habitable planets, max civs and no tech trading.

Damn, what year does it kick off in in your galaxy? I only ever got Doom Ray the first time after a seven year slog against the Drengin, and that was with very fast tech.

Seriously, tone the speed down. It makes it more fun anyway, since every tech matters. If you can build bigger hulls, it'll take rather a long time for the others to catch up, but they might have better weapons. It makes it a lot more tactical.

My games barely get past the first tier of weapons techs (ie. as far as Harpoon, Plasma weapons etc) before they're all over! Admittedly I've only just got 1.1 so things may slow down now that pop growth's been nerfed, and I don't play on bigger than large Galaxies, but still...

yes!, i prefer the tech tree in moo2, you research a tech box with 2-3 tecs, but you can only choose one of them, it would be nice! you can still choose the most important tech for you and then if you want the other two you need to refresh your diplomacy and hope the AI have them.

That was one of the few things in MOO2 that I disliked. I hated having to make a decision on which one I wanted and losing out on the others unless I stole them or had a creative race.
