Where are the Saucers?

I am an old time Gal Civ 1 player and started a little late with GC2 but am starting to get a bit annoyed. I have tried and tried to create some Star Trek ships and Classic UFO ships only to see that only ONE saucer looking shape if provided!! I am stuck with trying to make all my ships with that HEX shaped part with what looks like a pot handle on top of it.

For Goodness Sake!! Where are the Darn Saucers so I can design Feds ship, Gorn Ships, ISC Ships, Cylon Ships, UFO Ships, etc!!!!

I've played Gal Civ before, fellows! What I wanted with this game was the ability to create great looking ships and see them in action!!!! Why tease us with the tools and then leave out some of the most vital designs!?!!?

Come on! You have a Great Game here!!! Don't cripple it by not giving us the tools we need!

I'd like some... Well you know... Roswell type hulls to mess with as well (Spheres, Cylinders, Saucers, Triangles, etc... the stuff on UFO files ). Something official sos I could still play the Metaverse

Also, is there a way where I can bring up saved ship designs (just the extras) from previous games? When I update a ship design, I keep the design but just update the tech (engine, weapon, defense etc) usually save it the same name. Apparently these ships are saved with the tech on them. So when I start a new game, these ships are unavailable for use and I can't bring up the designs(since I obviously haven't researched the tech), so I have to redesign the ships. It takes time that I don't always want to spend. So, if anyone knows a way, can they please tell me? Otherwise, this would be a great option!!

Don't save the ship with the same name. Create a ship template and name it as such, and then when you "Upgrade" it later, save that new design with a new name. That way the tech isn't saved with it.

I usually have a series of ships named for example "Warlock", "Warlock-A", "Warlock-B", etc.

The Terrans have a medium sized saucer ship.

Yeah only the ONE Terran one that kind of looks like the Enterprise. The one that the Terran FlagShip is made of...

I usually build a template ship in the shipyard and save it with a name like "Ranger" for example with no weapons or engines or anything on the hull, just the Extras to get the design I like. When I want to build production models, I will 'upgrade' the original "Ranger" hull, and rename it "Ranger Mk I" for the first generation etc. Any kind of numbering/lettering scheme should work fine. For my upgraded constructors and Colony ships, I make the Mk number equal to the speed of the ship (Fast Colony Mk XV for example).

A more ambitious plan would be to generate an individual name for each ship as they are built.

Saucers....

Star Trek Ships
Cylon Basestar
Classic UFOs
Gorn Ships (from SFB)
ISC Ships (from SFB)
Vree (Babylon 5)

Also... please make the starting Hull Shapes smaller and less intrusive. It is fustrating trying to design a ship and having the basic hull design screw the whole thing up.

That is an awesome idea. That will clean up my shipyard quite a bit.

Thanks for the tips. Hadn't thought of that one. This will make ship creation so much easier!

I'd like saucers. It's hard to have the Dalek Empire without the burnished bronze saucers, really.

Hi,

I asked esentially this same question before and 'Marcathonas' and 'Bakka' helped me out. Let's say you have a design you like a lot and want to be able to use it early in your next game as a template. I had a Freighter named 'Kenworth' that I took quite a while designing that I really like a lot but wasn't able to access it until I had researched a few miniaturization and other techs. So what I was directed to do was to pull it up in the game I had going right now and then strip it of every weapon, defense, sensor, life support, ect. and leave only the trade module and my design stuff(jewelry) on it, then save that as a different name(which I named 'Kenworth Stripped').

Then the next game I played there it was, Kenworth Stripped was available as soon as I researched the 'Trade' tech.

Just in case you want to have a look at the thread... and my ship(pic included) , here's a link... Link
