AI Bug - Economy freeze

Since it happened to me twice now, I thought this should be mentioned:

In both cases, an AI player who was dominating at the time and should have won by conquest with no trouble, reduced all his expenditures in the budget to zero (except ship and colony maintenance). From then on it stayed that way for years, until the player was eliminated. Reloading the game didn't fix this. How can I stop to AI from committing suicide like that?

In one case, this happened to the Drengin, in another, to the Korx

What was his cash? If it goes below -500bc you get an instant economy freeze.

How much was in their treasury?

There is a game feature that forcibly reduced expenditures to zero when the treasure drops below -500.

Treasury looked empty, but that made no sense at all... in both cases that AI has a huge budget surplus with all expenses cut, and that was over a span of years.

I can't think of another reason than some AI bug reducing spending to zero in some event

I found a possible explanation: The AI had won a technology victory. The problem is that when a computer player gets Tech victory, no defeat is triggered for some reason...

hmmm.... i dont know if i would like the ai to without warning just win and i lose if the ai were to be allowed to win by a tech victory then there should be some warning through espionge as to how close they are to reasurching the final tech so that you could respond to military or economic sanctions to limit or knock out its resurching potential. that or just not allow the ai to get a tech victory

I'd say they might want to implement warning whenever someone researches a tech beyond discovery sphere, yes... but the AI should DEFINITELY be allowed to win a tech victory. If it cannot, it is simply an unfair advantage for the player
