Flagships?

If there is a search function on this forum, I'm sorry I didn't use it bcs I couldn't find it.

So, what does a flagship do besides collect anomalies? One of the starbase technologies says you can make a starbase into a flagship, so presumably the flagship has some greater function. I've been "upgrading" my starter flagship to some random fighter once I've found all the anomalies, but I have a niggling suspicion that I'm wasting a useful ship...

You cant do nothing more with it after all anomalies are gone. Just desing the best medium hulled ship you can and upgrade your flasgship. I dont know this fur sure ( becouse i didnt check it ) but if you get alot of anomalies that give xp or hp after upgrading your ship will be stronger that any other same desing ship.

They should bring back the function where your flagship could find weapons upgrades in anomalies. You found a Photonic Torpedo! Go kick ass!

I never tried upgrading an experienced flagship either but the experience bar still shows it as level 0 after you have that event. Do upgrades of a ship keep the same experience level?

I guess you are referring to the Starbase Conquest Strategy at the end of the Starbase Defenses tree:

(From Galactopedia)
Enables starbases to be the flagship of your ships

I believe this is just a figurative speech...

Omygosh, I think you're right. How did I miss that? The thing is, they throw this word "flagship" around as if it means something ... and it *could*! That's what kills me. They have this silly little goosed up scout ship and they call it a "flagship." It oughta do something more dramatic with a name like that. Like you could install an inspirational captain at the helm (okay, I'm thinking of Jean Luc Picard, I admit it) who could give a fleet extra power -- you choose militaristic, influential, or ... Or no, wait wait, your flagship could gain reputation which would preceed it. You could send diplomatic missions to other planets and have a better chance of establishing an alliance. When the flagship levels up (via battles or found anomalies) its reputation would increase, further helping it in both battles and diplomatically. I guess it would be your "hero" unit, to steal an idea from Warcraft...

It could also add in something more. If your flagship increases the influence in the current sector sending it to the homeworld of a race would increase your talks with them while it's there. What would be cool is some way to capture an enemy ship. Then you could go in search of Flagships and build an influencer fleet. Can you imagine 9 fully decked out flagships with influence moving from planet to planet. Every Race would be after them. Each race starts with 1 but cannot build any more. To get more you steal the others Race's ship or destroy the ones you find thus denying that race the fleet.
You could even make it so that each ship is a component in the fleet for some special weapon. ( Various type of weapon based upon the number of ships in the fleet.) The only restriction that I would put on these ships is nothing over Ion Drive can be used.

just a thought...

Anomolies should spawn thruout the game... this would make the Flagship and other Survey Ships more practicle. As it is now, they should be deleted mid-game.

I agree that the Flagship should be more important than it currently is. I have suggested that perhaps a bigger role be given to SENSORS overall. Adding Sensors to a ship could affect alot of this and greatly increase your Flagship's usefullness. Sensors could allow a Ship to see thru ECM, to increase chances to Hit, Increase chances to fire 1st, help the fleet it is in in some minor way, See Mines, allow huge ships to carry fighters, Allow ships to detect Cloaked chips, Allow Ships w/ Sensors to scout enemy planets and gain intel about them, etc.

AAAAARGH NOT CARRIERS!

Tohit= dice roll. Don't think so. Hit first: Ships will hit at the same time in 1.2. Mines: YAY! I want a minefield But no cloaking. Or I set the Drengin on you. Oh, and I already have every last bit of intel about every planet in the game, usually by year 3.
