Doomray Glitch

The Doomray has no portrait?!?!?!

I finally research the doomray after thousands of turns. So, like anyone I go to the ship builder to put them on. ?!?#!!? They look just like plasma (not a bug) and they have no portrait. Where the portrait should be, there's a black void.

What is up with this?

They kill other ships real good, though.

Thousands of turns? You are not doing very well in the research area if the DoomRay tech itself takes more than a dozen.

I think he means 'thousands turns' metaphorically, and researching the whole branch.

And the Doom Ray Icon missing is a known issues, hopefully to be fixed in the next patch(es).

There is a workaround for this. Look in your /galciv2/gfx/thumbnails folder for a file called S0_DoomRay.png. Delete this file and the game will generate a new thumbnail for the Doom Ray.

So.. was it fixed in tthe 1.1 patch, or could we have done this from the begining? How come this works? The only thing I can think of is that there is another Doomray icon elsewhere and the thumbnail is generated from this, and the original version somehow contained an icon that was blank?

Is there a similar bug for blackhole gun and blackhole erupters, and can they be fixed the same way?

After trying the Doomray workaround that was suggested, I think that if you just delete the file, no new one is generated, but another one is used for the thumbnail.
