what happened to alliances?

I am playing 1.1 either masochist or crippling depending on how much I want my butt kicked.

But what happened to alliances? I just cannot get anyone "close" no matter what I give them, no matter how much trade. Is this the difficulty level or the patch?

Oh one last thing.... That f**cking dog barking next door. Can't Stardock do something about it? They are miracle workers after all.

Hmm...
As far as I know in 1.1, it's enough to have friendly relationship to get alliance.

Unfortunately for me it ment very easy and cheesy diplo victories (lots of gifts in 1turn), so I turned diplo-win off.

I hope u can win by alliance victory in 1.1 as i am playing on suicide level as the Terrans, got alot of races to warm but none above yet. The Yor r cool however, which is wierd, as they have +++ and only - reactiion to me? I have done nothing to upset them, given them freebies and we do not even share a bordor. So what gives? I know they naturally hate all biological lifeforms but surely they could make an exception for a silver tongued devil like me?

You have to have close relations in order to offer an alliance. Also, I could be off on this, but I think that the one offering has to have alliances. I'm not sure though; I've never been close with someone before I had it researched.

Um in 1.1beta you had to be close but in 1.1final you can just be friendly to get an alliance. You both have to have the tech to offer an alliance though IIRC (up the top after interstellar govts) so sell it or give it to em or whatever you have to do if you want an alliance.

I have seen in 1.1 that you can ally with a race that is Friendly, but not always. In my last game the Arceans were Friendly with me but I didnt have the Alliance option in the trade screen (they had the tech because i gave it to them). I gave them a few more gifts, relations still said Friendly, but then I could ally with them. I have noticed that it seems a little harder, depending on the race, to move their relation with me, but I can still get diplo victories.

More to the above...
I cannot ever seem to ally with anyone despite friendly. I got into a really ridiculous situation where MY ships were kicking the drengie asses harrasing my would be allys home world and what happens? Relations went down because they "knew what I was doing" hahhahahhaha I wish I did

Hi,

In case someone knows the answer, I have a question. I remember seeing somewhere that in order to get an Alliance you offer the Alliance and ask for the Alliance with someone that is 'close'(now i read perhaps friendly will do). Ok, but when I have done this with someone that is close, they refuse, as if it's a bad deal. So far I have always had to offer some money to boot(playing with tech trading turned off for now). Has anyone gotten an Alliance by just offering to trade Alliances only and nothing more?

Perhaps their diplomacy was higher than mine, I'm not sure. Does that effect making an Alliance in such a way that one side can always get more out of the deal(if you want to cal it that) unless you both have equal diplomacy? Again, I do wonder if anyone has gotten it straight up, no extra money or techs added.

Also, does the AI ever offer an Alliance? I have had the AI approach me saying that we ought to do something about 'insert race here' that builds isb's to increase thier influence if I don't want to become thier appendage, but I don't think I've seen them actually offer the Alliance unless I just missed it. I think it would be cool if the AI were to offer the Alliance sometimes, if they don't ever do that as the game is right now.

Cheers

They are supposed to treat the player in the same way that they treat another AI. AI can form alliances with each other, so I assume they can ally with the player as well.

But the AI don't ally with each other particularly often, so I guess the same is true with the humans. It also seems likely that the human would offer the alliance before the computer got around to it.

I often have them perfectly willing to form an alliance for free, and occasionally I can pursuade them to pay a little cash to me for the pleasure. I guess it has something to do with a combination of diplomacy and comparative military might (you don't really want an alliance with a race that is much weaker than you).

Hey thanks No118. Well, that explains some things. Militarily I was somewhat weak in the instance I'm thiniking about, and I had average diplomacy with a good economy and money on hand!

in my last game i had the AI ask me for an allience (he even payed me some cash for it) .... but beware .... the AI then proceded to declare war to every other AI and drag me into it all

Still a newbie (having never played GalCiv-1 and just 2 of playing GalCiv-2) so my most difficult game has only been 9 AI, Normal difficulty with common planets/quality, rare stars and medium map.

I've been able to ally myself with the Altarians (did I spell that right) when they were friendly although I think I had to sweeten the deal with some tech. The Terrans and Arceans were both close to me so they accepted my alliance right away.

Once I get the feel for the game mechanics, I'll try larger maps.

Omg Selous! Well, I am glad to hear that the AI will offer to ally with you at times at least. Very cool!

I've had the AI quite happily offer to ally with me. They'll even pay money to do it!

...granted, that's when they're getting their heads pounded in by a bigger neighbor. Up until that happens, they're too good to be seen allying up with the Terrans unless I'm willing to pony up some dough.
