Life-like Solar System and Planetary Disasters

In star systems the sun only lasts so long... and while i realise that suns last much longer then the time of the game, every once and a while i sun should go, completly hindering a civilization or blowing up a useless star system.

On Planets famin can ocur but what about twisters and other natural disasters? Poorer planets should be prone to such things. Even a serous flaw in your factory has caused your planet to be reaseve a ? military and socail production while the factory is rebuilt. By making the game have realalistic setbacks players will be forced to juggle and enjoy GC2 more.

I would definatly like to make some more random events that players have to cope with, mostly if there's a setting so players can toggle these to their liking.

I'm also not against hte star-destruction thing, but 1. you'd have to have proper warning and 2. it'd have to be VERY random.

Thanks for the suggestions

With regards to the star-destruction thing: maybe have some stars be "Nova Risks" i.e. @ the end of their life-span or just naturally unstable. They would have an icon on them like you get on planets, as well as a "Our astronomers predict that this star is likely to explode" popup if you colonize one of the planets. You can colonize the planets around such a star, but you run the risk of it going nova and destroying all the planets and any ships that get too close.

Perhaps the occasional mega-solar flare, which depopulates the planets, but leaves them reusable?
