More Custom Race Customability

Or something like that...

I've been rolling this idea over in my head for a while since I am simply addicted to creating new custom races with their own logos and portraits... And making them individual ship types and all that good stuff... Yay for sandboxes!

Anyway, my actual ideas are as follows:
- At the screen for determining your opponents, have an option that allows for the selecting of custom made races to be opponents...
Example: The Uber-GalCiv2 Empire! (me), the Galactic Empire (think Star Wars... opponent 1), Rebel Alliance (opponent 2), and ... the Borg!!! (opponent 3)

... And I add the Drengin in just for fun.

Furthermore, in the color pallette selection, perhaps a way to look at the previous colors you've selected (since some of us actually do modify the bars and don't use the preset vanilla colors) to pick and choose while editing our custom races' goodness.... And, can't forget the possibility of further customization of the races!
Such as...
- Defining the race as good or evil (maybe I'm overlooking this if it's already in?)
- Determing (for opponent custom races) their general behavior... For instance, for beings like the Borg, they are incredibly aggressive and love to create large cube/spherical superships that conquer EVERYTHING!
- Perhaps a way to more easily import portraits/logos (IE, a selection to import a gif, jpg, or whatever through the custom race button...)
- A way to write a description for custom races!
- An option to use the ship builder from the menu with all techs available... That real sandbox creation mode so you don't have to worry about it while playing the game
That's all I have boiling around in here for now... Anyone else?

Yup, in the .xml files you can modify the ethical scale of any civ on a 1-99 scale (1 being demonic, 99 being angelic, and the varying degrees of good and evil in between)
That's c/program files/totalgaming/galciv2/data/english/raceconfig.xml

- A way to write a description for custom races!

Again, the .xml files allow this. My favourite custom race (The T-sidian Commune) had a huge description of how we formed, shunned humanity, out evolved them, the usual ego trip

Cheese 101. Doing this would mean you could make the drengins influence based, when they're weak at influence, and make your opponent play to weaknesses.

I just open up a .png, copy the image, paste over the .png, resize to fit, and save under a new name. Takes a bit, but I can copy and resize about 4 images a minute now. It's the sizing that's a pain, any programs that auto-size the pasted image? or am I being obtuse about paint

It would also be neat if the racial bonuses could be negative too. For example, you take a -10% in social production (adding two points to your pool), and then take a +10% in military production. That way you could have a race that's really boosted in some things, but really weak in others.

Download IRfanview

www.tucows.com has it

Its my absolute favorite little image viewer/editor

its not as versatile as a regular paint program, but It has a lot of the popular editing options right there.
for my photo editing I rarely have to open up photoshop or corel.

If you need a good image program, download Paintshop Pro ... you can get a free version if you Google it.

It was so good that I shelled out the $300 for the full version.

Or you could just set their Intelligence to fool, or the difficulty to cakewalk. What's the difference?

I'd still like to face custom made opponents.

Anyone know if this feature (being able to select custom made races as opponents) will be added in 1.2 or later?

The fact that I can play them as idiots without them going "Oh. Oh. I see what you're doing. You stupid bloody petty minded little moron with the intellect of a hummingbird on crack! What do you think we are? Lookee here ma, ships are coming to visit. Hey waita minute, them's invasion ships! UHHHHHH DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUH! Please. If it wasn't for the fact we have been made as sadly stupid as you, then we would SO kick your ass. As it is, please invade. Just do it. Your stupidity hurts me."

Editing the insults ftw!

Oh, and 1.2 has had something about playing against custom races (I think). Sod that, I want my automatic AAR!
