Sensor MK IV bug

Well I made a ship with 11 Sensor MK IV (has a sensor range of 2). In the Ship Yard it says that said ship has a sensor range of 25, but once made the ship has a sensor range of 15. Seems like it is not counting the extra range of the new sensor type at all as a cargo hull has a base range of 3, I get +1 for sensor tech, and I have 11 sensors on it. That or it's not counting the sensor tech ability bonus at all and only counting the MK IV only once. Either way it looks bugged.

Not a bug. The game is capped at 15, because people could build AWAC ships to see the whole map, which was lagfest.

Yes, Stardock said it was capped at 15 for performance reasons, and reducing cheese

So just use sensors to get the range up to 15 only. Or get the Eyes of the Universe and all ships have 15 sensor.

While the lag was an issue, and closely related to the real issue, the real issue was that the same problems that caused the lag could cause a CDT. I had a game that would reliably CDT every time I hit the "turn" button, and it was while analyzing this crash that Frogboy decided to cap sensors.

The cheese factor of sensor range 65+ ships wasn't being discussed much at the time, but this crash caused a release with the sensor cap to go live the next day, I think, definitely not more than 48 hours after I reported the crash.

Ok, gtk. I hate artifical caps like that. But what can you do. Seems like the whole sensor line needs to be rebalanced then if they are going to have a cap.

Needed it anyway. Guide book is useless, since I only ever have one survery powered ship unless using a map without survery at the start. And eyes of the universe pretty much makes every ship the cap.

To balance this, I generally make them a lot cheaper.

Crap. I'll stop building AWAX ships then and wondering why I'm not able to get them to see further.

PS: Was this in the manual or something?

Wasn't in the manual, it was a later change. I just make AWAX ships that hit the limit, then put on an engine or two and a few life support systems. They're cheap and fast that way, so I can make up for the limit with numbers.

It's kinda stupid that you actually can design a ship with 25 sensor range though. Shouldn't be possible adding modules so that the ship goes over 15. Or better yet, increase the cap to 30 or something.
