Galactic Civilizations II cracks the top 10 in sales

April results in

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6148856.html

In various posts Brad (Frogboy) has said that there was no way Galactic Civilizations II could make the overall top 10 in PC games sales.

The reason for that is that unlike games released by the big 5 publishers, Galactic Civilizations II would only be at major retail outlets (as opposed to every store that carries any sort of PC game).

Another factor is that Galactic Civilizations II is available for direct purchase and download which aren't counted.  Nearly 30% of the game's overall "sell-thru" has come from sales through TotalGaming.net (one can imagine the ranking if those sales were added in).

But thanks to strong word of mouth, great reviews, and other factors, GalCiv II sold so well at the retail outlets that it is at that it was able to still make the top 10 for April.

Thank you so much for your support!

I never understood why you never expected it to crack top ten. It's just an awesome game.

This is the first PC game I've bought since Half-life2...
To be honest, the reason I bought it was a magazine article, or maybe a blog, I forget
about the company's philosophy on copy-protection.

Overall, I'm happy with my purchase, great game.

What do you expect when you make a great product? And continue support.....And say there might be an expansion...And tell us there might be an GalCiv3.

PS> Oblivion, GalCiv2, Oblivion, GalCiv2, Oblivion, GalCiv2, Oblivion, GalCiv2, Anymore that is all I do.

PPS> Screw anyone not on the Oblivion, GalCiv2, gravy train

Well as far as I am concerned, it should be in the top 10, the game is that good and yes people are recommending it. Also, I think stardock now has all of the MOO community over here because GalCiv2 is a better game, simple as that. Not to mention it has MUCH better graphics and 3D at that. People have to agree, those graphics look pretty and get more sales so more people will pick up a copy. Kind of like women (and us guys too just ask your wife or girlfriend, not to mention cats and dogs too), the better looking ones get picked up faster, at least most of the time.

You really deserve it, great game.

Just one thing, if this guy from EA knocks upon your door to buy the company... don't open!

An excellent game deserves an excellent position in the top sales charts cause it's just so good

I just can't believe that 'The Sims 2: Family Fun Stuff ' tops the list. EA just keeps making cash cows...

You forgot to mention the No Copy Protection part How could you sell so many, obviously everyone is just stealing the game without copy protection!

Heh, congradulations. I love you guys
No, exactly the opposite! If they stole the game then they wouldn't be counted in the sales. This goes to show that people actually buy the game BaninLance.

You guys just pulled off the George Mason NCAA run of the computer gaming world...

I heard nothing but good words about GalCiv before I bought it, and the thing that really sealed the deal for me was the respect Stardock has for their customers. Not only is GalCiv free of copy-protection/drive hassles, but the shipped product is not considered finished! It is continually upgraded, made better, and the community is shown what changes occur and the progress Stardock makes through its frequent news. The community has truly received Stardock's dedication and support, and for that we give you ours.

Glad I could add to your success. Now, if only the game had been called, "Master of Orion III"...

I think they know how useless and annoying their crap is, they are just used to marketing blahblah... and FUD.

Anyway, good idea ...
