The big minus: Lack of "Civilopedia"

Really, it's shame that something like Civ4 Civilopedia is missing in GalCiv2.
Exempt of a way to easily indentify what every thing does (without looking at manual, since manuals usually do get obsolete after several patches), it could've been a place to flesh out racial descriptions (there is lots of back story to tell).

So IMHO, this is something that really needs to be done for expansion.

Encyclopedia Galactica we need you!

P.S.
It could also be a place to store all those tech related jokes from GNN reports.

There is an extensive Wikipedia site: Link

Wiki site is nice, but I agree that having something in game would be cool. Ah well, can't have everything.

Download the third party helper application Galactopedia Link

It would be nice if it was built into the game.

It would be prefferable if it were built into the game, although not being so means that you can look things up without being in the game, so I guess it's really a trade-off.

I second the advice on the Galactopedia. A very helpful reference.

Unfortunately, it needs .NET, which I won't install on my PC.

Its a nice idea, but honestly, MOOIII had this (can't remember if II did or not), and I never used it. Its a nice idea, but in practice almost everyone will forget its there.

I don't need a full civilopedia per say, with all the useless trimmings, but it would be nice if the tech tree that we have showed more details.

Would it really hurt for the tech tree to show exactly some of the stats of the ship components such as damage (weapons) or speed (drives) or size (hull)? There just isn't enough functional details available in game. I didn't know ship components varied with ship hull sizes until i read this forum! It wasn't in the manual, nor was it in game...

I think a 'pedia is a nice thing to have, however, in Civ IV I almost never use the civlopedia, because that game has very rich tooltips and all the interfaces relay all the information you need. As long as the game presents all the information you need there's minimal need of looking stuff up. GC2 does this pretty well too.

I would say GC2 needs work on informative tooltips. I would like to be able to mouse over ship components and get their stats displayed!

Um, why? It's not going to hurt your computer. Do you not install the Java runtime for Java applications you want to use?

I've never had problems with .Net, those that have, are those who use Apple machines, and just use the XP OS to play games.

That's a very ignorant remark, JM. There were many compatability issues with the original .NET runtime package and a lot of computers, and I would be very surprised if there were none with the latest version. I also find your prejudice against non-Windows users highly offensive and immature.

Simply put, since there are no other applications I want to use that need .NET, why would I put it on? It's a fairly large application that does who-knows-what to one's PC.
