Crash upon saving

I have just recently used a custom image for a race, combined with custom icons. Since using those, the game locks up every time me or it tries to save. Only solution I've seen is un-installing, deleting both the save dirrectory and the install dirrectory, then re-installing without the patch (with the same icons). Any idea of how to get it to work with 1.1?

Update: Game refuses to save when custom portraits (gotten from this website or any others) are present in the "Portraits" dirrectory and works when custom logos are present, but not in use.
