Activation Error

I just got version 1.1, and attempted to activate it, but i get the message "Error activating the product". My computer is fully internet capable and functioning normally. What is going on, and what can be done, other than activating via email? I was told to try to find and delete the sig.bin file, but I have none.

You must have just missed my post to your problem in the other thread, here's a reprint:

I'm not sure if this is related, but you might try deleting the sig.bin file and repeating the registration process. Here is a link to another thread with a problem similar to yours:

Lol yes I did. I was reposting, so that the topic description described the current problem (old moderator habit). I can't seem to find the sig.bin file, even with a windows search.

Mine is in the GalCiv2 folder. Looks something like this on my PC:

C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\sig

I haven't actually deleted the sig.bin, so not entirely sure what will happen. The dev posted that it can help though, so I expect it should wipe all your reg. info and just prompt you as if it were a fresh install. Please post whether or not this fixes it so I can suggest it (or not) to others.

I looked there, and ran another windows search. Nowhere in my GalCiv files is there one labeled sig.bin. Maybe a full reinstall is needed.

My knowledge in this area is limited. If you don't have this file, then that would help explain why it's not working. You might try a search on the left before reinstalling, but that is probably what it will take.

Update:

I just re-installed the program off the disks. Still no sig.bin file. If this is the source of the problem, what is a guy to do?

I have the same problem. Installed fresh, patched. Activation fails - can't communicate with the server etc. (There's no sig.bin because I haven't ever registered the game before).

Most likely: server's down. Wonderful :/

Maybe a word from someone official? This really sucks for me, because the game doesn't work well with my new video card, and I need the 1.1 patch to play. So I'm twidling my thumbs until the server comes back up (if that's the case) or until I get another idea.

I don't like things that don't work like the are supposed to. If I can't get it working automatically, I'm going to delete the update, and if need be, return the game. I'm looking for a solution, not a step-around.

Activation now works for me. Server must be up now?

Try filling out the activation again Duke - should work now (hopefully )
