Can't launch empty transports

Hi,

When I build a transport ship I can't launch it from it's home planet without troops on board. Given, I can set it to just 1 but it just annoys me that I have to put people on it. Is there any way to do this that I'm not aware of?

I'd say some of the same people who are used to fly the other cannonfod... uuuh... I mean combat vessels

Very good point Tue,
I commonly design and use Transport Ships not as Invasion Vessels but for redistributing people among the colonies.
Although I already accepted the fact that at least one population should be put on the ship (a pilot of some sort) I really would appreciate a button to set the population to a minimum because having to carefully change the slide to the minimum and back to one is a real pain specially because those slides don't work well.

Kisses from me...

Edna,

I do exactly the same and would like to see this ability in 1.2 if possible.

And kisses to you too by all means.

I presume this is to stop strange things happening when you move a colony ship with zero colonists/troop ship with zero troops to an empty/enemy planet.

probably, No118, but as Tue and Edna point out, then make the min. setting 1, instead of the illegal and useless 0.

D'oh!

I launch mine with 1 person loaded. I guess some cheap, empty transports would make good bait...or arm them as Q-ships.

You know you can use the mousewheel with every slider ? That works very well and you can adjust it quite exactly.

You need 1 million people to fly a ship? Complex ship.

Nope, it's just another irritating problem. If I want to scrap a transport or colony ship, I need to kill at least 1 million people to do it.

If the default troop setting was 1 instead of full then your complaint would be "when you have your starport sending transports to a rally point they only have 1 troop on them what kinda idiots would make a game do that ". They Exist to invade planets, yeah you can use other things but the vast majority of us rather they be full of big mean nasty infantry. As an issue this rates just above "why isnt pluto in Terran system OMGZERS!"

Nobody's suggesting setting the default to 1. They're suggesting setting the minimum on the slider to 1, or possibly allowing them to launch empty.

Exactly.

I am pretty sure that this is to prevent a player from attacking a planet without any troops in their transport, without changing the ground combat code too much. It seems like an easy fix to a possible problem if they decided to let the user have empy transports launch.

I feel guilty for sending 1M people to their death so I can scrap a colony ship for 20bc. LOL -- that should affect my alignement, shouldn't it?

No zero may avoid divide by zero errors later on.

A good use for extra transports and colony ships is to upgrade them to basic constructors. The basic models will cost 200 or 300 credits, and there is almost always a good use for extra constructors. A person can also upgrade to freighters once trade is available.
