I have found out that it doesn’t have to be the 'Assassination' event that cause's the CTD, but any event will cause CTD at this point in my game. I have been playing this game all week with no problems at all with events.
I have tried loading 3 separate save games with the same result, after loading, it can be 2 to 20 turns before a event pops up, on pressing the 'Done' button a CTD occurs.

Also blatant bugs are
1 Torian and Dregin are fighting each other but are at peace according to the treaties screen.
2 On the decision by the council to allow x more trade routs, no extra trade routs can be allotted.
3 On selecting and moving a ship from a disbanded fleet , a completely different unselected ship will make the move.
4 The focus on the turn button is far to large and makes using the bottom of the mini map without activating turn impossible
