Where did the gun go?

- Mass driver gone drifting.

Nice job on 1.1.
However, I found a bug that I can’t find in the forum, sorry if this is already known.

When taking a planet from the dirty Korx I got some technology I didn’t have.
This was a sonic mass driver weapon that doesn’t show in the techtree, so I’m guessing it’s an evil special weapon (I’m neutral). When I’m building/upgrading a ship this gun is nowhere to be found, however.
Is this supposed to happen?

Yes it is. You can capture techs from any race (or steal), but if they have a good/neutral/evil prerequisiste that you don't meet (psionic shredder when you aren't evil etc) then you still won't use the tech.

That kind of sucks, doesn’t it?
It means I get nothing for my effort, except a planet that is.
Ok, maybe that is a lot

Wouldn’t it be better if you only got tech you could use?
The next planet I ransacked from the wicked Korx gave me tech I could use, so this seems to be a glitch.

Far be it from me do argue with a Heinerian Dominar, but it does make sense ...

"Well General, what's your report on the invasion of Macedonia I?"
"Overall its gone well Mr President, there was a minimum of civilian casualties and the transition to a new provisional government has occured with the minimum of protest, in fac the populace seems almost releived"
"A definite success then"
"Mostly yes sir, its just that ... well ..."
"Yes general?"
"Some of the things we found down there were ... disturbing"
"Given the nature of the Korx we could expect some of that, its part of the reason we did this."
"Yes sir, but I'm not just talking about the slavery or secret police centres. We found something else down there."
"What?"
"Well, following standard procedure we hacked into the planetry data nets before they were severed from the central Korx hub. In them we found the deive for some kind of weapon"
"What sort of weapon?"
"It ... it looks like some kind of missile sir, but unlike anything I hav ever seen. Unlike anything I want to see again. It doesn't use a conventional warhead instead it ... oh god ... it uses telepaths."
"What do you mean uses them?"
"Their brains sir, they render them down somehow, use it as a charge for the warhead. They're still alive when it happens sir, they die in agony!"
"Dear god! These Korx are even worse than we thought!"
"It gets worse sir. The weapon causes little damage to ships, but to the crew ... The torpedo causes agony, indescribable agony and it doesn't go away sir the targets live the rest of their lives in excurciating pain!"
"There's only one alternative. Delete all the main copies of the file. Keep one copy and submit that the the War Crimes Tribunal. They will need it for evidence when we finally bring the perpetrators of this ... abomination to justice"
"yes sir!"

Good point, crowprince.
It’s just that I feel cheated somehow.
Kind of like when you are letting a mighty battlecry out to strike fear into the black harts of the enemy, only to discover that your coward of generals just let some helium rip.
I’m also a bit worried that this quasitech will be “given” multiple times.
Pre 1.1, wasn’t you given those techs anyway? Never happened to me, but a friend told me about it.

no, it was like this before 1.1 too. one time it was offered it to me in trade for something....so i took it....yeah, so much for that deal.

You shouldn't even be able to get the techs you don't meet the moral prerequisite for, in my opinion.

On the other hand, how would that apply to evil or neutral races getting Arnorian Battle Armor? Or Subspace Rebounder technology?

The Good defensive techs give bonuses to defense as well as components; does anyone know if the bonuses work if a non-Good race captures the tech? What about a tech like Neutral Shipping?

What about a tech like Neutral Shipping?

Start a game and max out your trade routes, make a note of all income and align yourself with evil or good. Then buy it from a neutral AI. Assuming the AI actually bothers to research it...

Maybe if it was on god mode?

In the next update, you will only be able to steal technologies you can actually use.
