Influencer Starbase upgrade help

I'm making an attempt at subverting one of the AI race planets and I've setup shop with several influencer starbases around the target planet. I'd like to upgrade the starbase to the next level, but when I use a constructor to do so, I am only presented with the options of adding weaponry or the diplomatic branch upgrade. I would like to go the influence upgrade path, but for some reason it's not showing up even though I have recently completed researching Advanced Trade. Are there other technology requirments beyond Advanced Trade that I am missing somewhere in order to upgrade via the influence branch?

I hope I'm not confusing you here, but I'm pretty sure there are two infuence branches for those bases. One of them *is* the diplomatic branch. It increases influence, not diplomacy. Just in case, save your game and then try it out. But yes, I think there is another one and you'll just have to look around to find it. Try looking at stuff under Xeno Research somewhere.

Also, I don't know if multiple influence starbases near each other have any kind of stacking effect or not. I hav a feeling they don't, though. Be careful anout that strategy.

Both the diplomatic and the economic culture upgrades / paths helps influence.
You can up grade them both if you are willing to spend the initial 500 BC and all the constructors.
The cultural domination techs that you are lacking are the branch of techs that starts (or contains) xeno business, cultural trends and the frictionless clothing, etc I believe. They are more powerful than the diplomatic modules, but you can have both sets on the same starbase.

Influencer Starbase effects do stack, just dump a couple around a lone AI colony and upgrade them till each one is at the same IP value as the colony (need to do some espionage for that...) and the target colony should pop up with the rebellion icon at some point. Wether it flips or not is another question...

to get up to the cultural conquest mod ( the 100% modifier) you need to research the tech tree that goes from advanced trade to xeno busness, cultural domination all the way to cultural conquest.

Follow the Xeno Business path all the way to Cultural Conquest. That will give you the big influence bonuses. The top path, for various governments, also has a few modules but they're not in the same league and are only required if you're hitting that four starbases to a sector limit and still not making headway.
