new standard commands

i am sure others out there have some ideas in this area. i put this in an other lead but don't remember which lead. so here i go with this one so i can keep trake of it.

but i think we should have a new auto command could patrol or whatever you wish to call it.

right now you can explore or explore and attack but that usually puts your ships way outside your borders

the patrol command would keep the fleet inside of your borders and attack any target ships that are inside your borders

that way you can keep some ships inside your borders.

How would this work? Borders are planets. Influence borders are constantly changing. It would slow the game down calculating the route every turn, and there just isn't a point. You can already see inside your own borders.
No thanks from me

Yeah this is not a usefull command.

Such commands already existed for example in Warcraft series.

I played warcraft 1-2-3 with all expansions lot of times and never used thoses command, simply because it not usefull, sepcially if you have the possiblity to play without fog of war.

In that case, the best way is to move them by yourself.

There's a point where if the computer is doing al the job at your place, why playing the game ??

Hm, I like the idea of patrols. Not necessarily "inside the border", but pick point A, B, C, etc, and continue in an endless loop. For instance, guarding trade routes, or doing routine checks on hostile space. Have them ask for attention is they see a non-friendly ship, or hostile ship, or enemy ship, depending on settings, and otherwise they could just continue. I'd love to be able to set some interceptors like this, and stagger them so they covered all my hotspots.

Saguinius idea is better, that's something I wouldn't object to. It does technically exist if you create a bunch of GoTo rally points, but to do a 5 point control would require you to set up 5 points, make them go to each other, then set all the ships up. I like the idea of create patrol route: click 5 places, and off you go.

Hey, the less clicking I do the more "Enlightenment" I bring to the rest of the galaxy. Sharp, pointed, painful enlightenment

How about when you tell the ship to patrol, you move the mouse away from it and a range circle (or box) appears. When you've decided how far it should patrol, you click and that sets the range. Then the ship will continually prowl inside that area.

I like Saguinius's idea too.

i tried the rally point idea, didn't work unless i did something wrong. ship would just go to the first rally point and sit even after they filled up the fleet
the above idea sounds like a good one

was just thinking you could use a rally point as the center of the patrol circle and when ever ships meet at the rally point the merge if possible

found out that you cannot click on the rally points which is why you count do the waypoint idea
