Random Events ROCK! [potential spoilers]

I have to say, I'm really enjoying the random events inside of a game.

1. Random ethical challenges when colonizing a new planet.
2. Ongoing ethical choices for already colonized planets (although a little weak)
3. Random benefits of anomalies (above and beyond +1 to +5 to a racial attribute)
4. Random political vote events (such as forcing all races to trade a number of unique techs)
5. Most of all, the pure random events that go on during the game.

Some of the pure random events are really interesting...
1. The Snathi stealing another races's tech and offering to exchange them for planets (with video) is awesome.
2. The prison break event after a galactic prison is formed by the council.
3. Unearthing an ancient starship
4. A new race shows up in the galactic neighborhood.

This isn't meant to be a complete list. But do other people enjoy the diversity of random events as much as I do? Wish there were even more of the existing types, or even a new type of random event?

*Sigh * I miss random events... It apears that since v1.1 they have all disapeared...

I wonder if v1.2 will have a slider to decide how common random events will be...

why am i the only one that doest get the cool ones ? i played minimum 30 games and all i got was an economic boom, wave of xenophobia, and the warmhole that increases reproductive rates ...

I got a message while playing my last game on 1.1 which said that a new movement had swept through the Yor. They turned from an evil race that was wary towards me to a good race who befriended me right away. I thought it was awesome!

Random events are good. They keep the game interesting. I find it a good way to get whatever ethical alignment I want, which is usually "good."
"Enslaving that pre-industrial race makes me look pretty bad, so I think I'll spend whatever it takes to save the people on that doomed moon, or spend whatever it takes to save my people."
or if I'm going for "evil"
"Now my troops will be unstoppable now that I've given them performance enhancing drugs. And when they die, I'll just resurrect them! Ha ha ha ah ha aa hh!"

Random events are good.

Really? Not counting the economic and xenophobic events I have had one, ONE random event. It was on the last game I played, the intelligence boost that doubles research I think...

The frequency of all random events has been reduced in 1.1. You still get them, just not as much.

I had a game where the Drengin found a precursor artifact that would make them increasingly powerful as time goes on, I think it was suggested in the event that they should be destroyed before they become too powerful... So I did

I'd love to see more events added in the next patch/expansion!

Yeah, random events surely decreased in 1.1!

Did you also notice that the 'popping' up of minor rces decresed drastically in v1.1? Or is this also a random event?

In like SIX v1.1. games (all set to medium map, randomize # opponents, minor races enabled, blind exploration) I had only ONE minor race popping up very very late in the game, and they were conquerd by the Drengin even before they could construct a freighter....

I really think a slider setting the abundance of random events is a great idea!

Along with a slider for Minor Civs, rather than just on/off. I love running into the lil guys and kindly protecting/ruthelessly exploiting them.

I got that too, but decided not to trust them and instead wiped them from the galaxy.

I get a few in 027, but that "ultimate power" one seems to pop up every single time I let the pace of my galactic takeover slack a bit while I power-research.

We need a slider!

I still haven't gotten the artifact of ultimate power one. I want to see how that turns out if I leave them alone.

I think I remember that in GalCiv 1, that event gave +1% to a random civ bonus every turn, so the longer you waited the stonger their bonuses got till eventually, they could double or triple production, research, combat bonuses, soldiering et al.

I agree the cool random events were definitely cooler before the patch. That ultimate power thing freaks me out. Has anyone not dealt with the race that has it and got vaporized?

BTW... I still get random events quite often in v1.1... could it be because I'm playing with races with a luck modifier?

Some of these random events I'm hearing about are quite evil... sounds awesome. (And I thought I already cycled through all of them. Nice to know the game is holding a few back.)

Yeah, I think luck has a lot to do with how often you see them. My custom race has a point in it, and I get precursor ships, the birth rate increase, the two cultural ones, and the economic booms/recessions all the time. Every now and then someone will flip ethically. I still haven't seen any pirates, but I did have the "prison break" event the other day. I even had the extremists one, or whatever the fanatics are called. All of the poor Drengin's planets converted to them.

haha, i find that if you research xeno-ethics, you dont get the fanatics thingy popping up. Some random events seem linked to the galaxy, ie, economic boom happened when the whole galaxy was suffering economy-wise, reproductive rate happened when at least 2-3 races were low on population and had lots of room for more.

(sadly, I rarely invest in farming, with exceptions to production worlds in some cases so they can produce a few troop transports, then just send them out with 1 troop to a difft planet with the 5 bil cap)
