Campaign - odd Drengin build glitch

I upgraded to version 1.1, and I've had something odd occur. The Drengin seem to only build Defenders in the first few games (at least), and these defenders...don't appear to have any weapons, even when the Drengins have advanced weapons tech according to the diplomacy box. This is on normal difficulty. They built more-or-less normally in a version 1.0 build. Am I the only one seeing this?

I really think that the Devs should be aware that the patch apparently cripples the AI in the campaign game.
Since this is what most people will start the game with, they will conclude that the AI is terrible - and, no, the answer is not to kick up the difficulty. The answer is to fix whatever change in the patch turned the AI from being enjoyable in version 1.0 to being lifeless in version 1.1 for the same difficulty level.

I think that the problem is that the AI designs new ships far too seldom.
He begins building the 0/0-defenders before he has any weapons in order to stop a transport-rush. Then it just takes too long before he designs his next-generation ships.

Hi, first time poster here.
I noticed something strange happening when playing campaign (v1.1, Tough).
It seems that Drengin do not put any weapons on their combat ships at all.
(seems same issue like in first post)

If it's tiny combat ship, they don't put anything.

If it's small they put only armor. Using armor at all makes no sense, since in campaign, in first two missions, humans have no access to mass driver technology.

By the way, having armor availabe in first two missinons at all is design flaw (useless tech).

I have no idea what makes Drengin bugged. Altarians in first mission make their ships normally.

I suspect that maybe campaign limited tech rules conflict with non-campaign Drengin AI.
For example, Drengin AI prefers missiles or mass drivers, but since they are unavailable, things get bugged.

No, it's that way for story reasons. Shields haven't been invented yet so both Terran and Drengin use the defense they actually have and that is armor. Besides, 1 in armor is as good as 1 in shields.

But doesn't armor only protect against Mass Driver weapons?

I think all defenses protect with the square root of the total defense when facing a non-specific weapon. Consequently all 1 defenses are equal against all weapons.

By the way, does anyone know could bug such as this be temporary be fixed though the moding?

I mean it is defiently something with behaviour of Dreign, since I don't think other races suffer from this.
So maybe some tweak somewhere could fix this...

I would like to add my voice to the group of people reporting this bug/glitch or whatever it is.

I guess I don't mind being able to walk all over the Drengin in the campaign games...but, it is kinda odd.

Same here, 1.1, Campaign Drengin builds nothing with weapons on it. Kind of boring when the enemy never has a weapon.
