Galactic Privateer bugged?

Does it acctually do anything after your trade ships have already been attacked?

So, i have seen this a few times now, my trade routes are attacked, i then build the Privateer galactic wonder and.. my trade routes continue to get knocked off.

Conversely, IF i build the privateer before the trade routes come under fire, it seems they never do.

could someone please explain what this wonder is supposed to do?

Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't. What's more annoying is when it does work, but the AI doesn't seem to realize what's going on and keeps trying to attack it. The camera jerks to it every time they try and eventually their fleet follows it right to your home world.

I don't rely on heavy trade and see the privateer as a waste of time instead of producing for my military juggernaut.
However, if it seems to work on routes after you build it. You can cancel routes and establish new ones.

I have seen other posts stating that it may allow individual freighters getting knocked off, it still keeps the route from being destroyed.

In the betas I would see a route come under attack (camera moves to watch the action) and nothing happens. After SEVERAL times of that finaly the attack would occur. It seemed to have something to do with the size of the fleet that was attacking the frieghter.

With or without that Privateer building I have not seen one of my routes get removed from being attacked...

After conquering a planet with the Galactic Privateer on it, it appears to have no affect.

I try to not rely on heavy trade as mentioned by Supreme Shogun, but the extra 600 bc for investing a few turns in building freighters is always nice. Especially if you're like me and waste even more time building groups of 4 builders and having them construct economic bases with trade bonuses in them along each route.

I have experienced this too. Playing the Terrans, I constructed Galactic Privateer before creating any trade routes. I built it on Earth and then created 3 trade routes, also originating from Earth. Several turns later, the Kork declared war on me and knocked out all of the freighters. Building the Galactic Privateer just didn't seem to have any effect at all.
