No new core ship designs

If you read the manual, there's this interesting seection about the shipyard where you could build your own ships.

I personally have the same problem. I have totally no idea under what circumstances new core ships become available.
I have researched the Trade Tree (and all other needed techs) up and down and all around but still there appears no Frighter Design in the Core Ship Panel. So when do new Core Ships appear?

I always get new Core ships every game... and then I Obsolete them immediately.

I wish I could get them to stop showing up... They're utterly useless.

Freighters also need one of the better engines IIRC and for others you also need to research the hulls and life support. Depending on what weapons/defences you research you get the other ships as well. If you have those you should get them

But it's better to build your own.. More speed and/or better range is only 1 reason, you can skip the "eye candy" if you don't want to be bothered with designing.

Really, it's always better to design your own ships than to use the core ones. Even if you can't be bothered to make your ships look nice, just put some engines, weapons, or trade module, or whatever on your ship and save it.

you have to research the building techs, like medium scale building large scale building then new hulls show up, and you just have to research the weapsons or defenses that go with the ships and then that ship will show up, but you should really make your own
