Is it possible to play the game using less than 1 gig ram memory?

I am getting frustrated with this game. I have a P4 with 640 mg of ram. Game is crashing constantly due to running out of memory. Is it possible to play the game with 640 megs of ram? Tips on how to do this would be very welcome.

Also, loading time can take 5 minutes and saving the game can take just as long. Anyone out there having the same experience?

I llike the game but the crashes is making it difficult to play.

The new 1.1 has some memory issues at the moment. They are working on it as the #1 priority.

But yes, it is possible with your ram. It does run better with more, though.

i've got 256 mb and it runs fine...


Same here, Only with 512MB

Your graphic cards memory will play a huge part in it too.

When I recently had to loan 512MB of my 1GB to my sister, I was astonished by the decline in playability because I have a very high end system. This was with 1.0X. I suppose it's because I have the settings turned up. Anyway, I now have 2GB of RAM just in case.

If you into PC gaming I would go ahead and upgrade to atleast 1gb of ram. More and more games are using around a gig of ram.

I have 1 GB but my graphics card is only 128 MB. i have a few issues, especially in larger galaxies. turning down graphics options does help. might also want to double check if you have any unnceccessary idle programs, spyware, etc. running in the background.

I have an athlon xp 2500+ (1.8ghz), with radeon 9800 pro 128 mbs and 1,5 gig of pc2700, it take no more than 30 second to load huge save game !

512 RAM and it runs fine here, but of course i play with the screen in zoomed out mode after the early stages of the game. I just like the tatical map best, remember, graphics don't make games, gameplay does .

celeron 2.8 512 ram and fx5200 - i can play the game as long as there are not many ships on my screen ... 3+ more ships and its 5 fps huge galx load time is about 2 mins and first save after starting the a huge galaxy takes even more

You can play with less than a gig but you probably need to increase your virtual memory settings. I moved mine to the max under XP 4096 (4 gig) and the playability improves. Save and load times do not however.
