Planet Quality Jumps

At times it seems that planets that I have explored and then bypassed because they are low grade jump in quality, or higher grade planets appear behind my exploration front. Anyone else notice this?

I have seen that happen when a minor race shows up but not otherwise.

Minor races that show up after the game starts usually colonize otherwise uninhabitable worlds; in my games they are almost always on gas giant looking planets. Or perhaps you've researched a tech that will give you more space to play with (Neutral ethics choice, terraforming etc.). Or it could be a bug

Hi,

I haven't played very many games yet so I'm not very knowledgeable. However I am wondering if you are playing as the Terran race and researched the Stellar Cartography tech? I certainly took note of it's description upon completion of it being researched.

"Our sensors allow us to see stars throughout the galaxy, but not necessarily planets. Those planets that we think are high quality may show up slightly different on our mini-map scanner now."

From that description of the Stellar Cartography tech I would also take it that planets that you might think are low quality might show up differently now too, as ah-em, higher quality.

I might be completely off base here but I thought I'd take a stab at why you're seeing what you are. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong in my assumption(from the description) about what Stellar Cartography does.

Regards

I for one can see no difference when I get stellar cartography.

There are several very rare random events that can improve a lot of planets. I have played countless games now and only seen it once but I have read here of others getting it.

I had an amazing random event where my planet quality doubled. Now, the initial planet was 18. Yes, folks, the new planet was 36!

I've never counted the tiles, and I can't run and check right now. What is the maximum number of tiles visible? That would be the theoretical limit to PQ, yes?
