hypercomputers; what tech?

as stated...
in the manual (yes, i actually read it!) says these can be built... and since im obsessed about researching all the juicy techs, i always try to find it....

but i cant..

has it been removed? or have i simply not researched far enough?
(i stop at discovery spheres in research due to the fact im trying to kill everyone. note- try)

Apparently hyper computers is a building (that is supposed to boost research) and would appear to be a galactic achievement (only one civ can build on only one planet).

This building is apparently unlocked by researching Aereon Missile Defense which would appear to be at the very end of the missile defense tree.

This is according to galactopedia btw (in case there might be something else you are curious about).

Hypercomputers are a trade good, apparently (I just built them) that gives +20% research. They're at the end of missile defence... so you'll either get them for 'free' if MD is useful, or have to waste a month or two getting it if nobody uses missiles.

awwwwwwwwww
ty anyway for the info

(why awww? because i wanted to go down the blowy upy thingy path... instead of going down the (must-stop-my-ownships-from-going-kablouey)

more fun to attack then defend

The best defence is attack If there are no enemies left to shoot, you cant die =D

I've been wondering if the hyper computers being in the end of the missile tech branch is actually a typo in the XML file. I mean it would seem to me that they really should be in the research branch right? But yes it is a trade good that you get when you research Aereon Missile Defense.

I don't think so... read the tech description when you research Aereon Missile Defense. It is described there as a hugely complex system combining droid sentries, point defense and Electronic Countermeasures. The networking required for this to work is done by advanced computers, which makes it perfectly legitimate in my opinion that this might trigger advances in computer technology.

If you have no use for missile defense and just want the hypercomputers, trade them from the AI, or just build some more labs

It just seems strange for one branch of the 3-branch defense tree to give you such a powerful item. I mean, nobody's ever going to research the entire missile defense tree just to get this trade good. So it seems odd that missile defense gets this special advantage that the other defenses don't get.

Yeah, as much as it makes sense it makes one defence branch far more valuable. Moving it to even minturisation would be better, I think... unless they added 'planetary shielding' and 'uber-jesus hull plating' to the ends of the other two.

Oh I read the tech description for the missiles so can certainly see your point in that regards. However it still strikes me that this is the only trade good that is not in a branch specific to what it does. Now if the trade good at the end of the missile branch say added +10 to def or something well then that I can understand. But honestly putting a trade good that affects research in a defense branch doesn't strike you as off? Then again I'll take my own advice here in that just cause I don't understand the *why* doesn't mean it isn't valid .

And where can I get me some of that *uber-jesus hull plating*?

I do find it odd that it just appears down there while the other weapons and defenses don't offer any outside bonuses like that. I figure it's just a way to help offset the fact that missiles are the 'best' weapon in the game (personal preference not withstanding). They are very powerful and the final weapon is the best size / damage ratio of the 3. The draw back has been said to be that researching missile defense is cheap... I guess they decided to toss this in as an added bonus. It does in-fact unlock when you get Aereon Defense whether it makes much sense or is balanced is up for debate. I would like to see more similar things showing up in the tech tree, maybe creative alternative uses for technologies, but that discussion falls under another thread I'm sure.
