The people hate me :(

Downloaded patch 1.1 today, started a new game... well, a couple new games. And in every one, as of the first turn, I have an approval rating somewhere around what president bush had last year (50%-60% usually), every time. I take the morale bonus and it helps some, but what the heck? Im hoping this is just some minor issue, not the games way of saying it hates me.

I'm not sure it's an issue. It does make the game harder, but have you ever seen a real society where 90% of the people supported the leader? So in a way it makes things more realistic by putting pressure on you from day one. If you buy or build an entertainment building (or two) early, it will help. I usually take the highest morale bonus too, it's my fave choice.

50%-60% isn't that bad, but if you want to get your approval up and you're having trouble with it, give your race a morale bonus.

Also try keeping your taxes lowered.  40% is about the highest you should go if you're worried about approval, and even then, you shouldn't keep it that high for long.

yeah, I think the starting spend rate was changed from 50% to 67% in 1.1, so initially the peeps will like you a lot less in 1.1!
If you're feeling unloved just put it back down
