Graphics Glitch

Lo All,

I have only brought this game recently and only beginningto explore it. Since my installation and updates, I have weird white lines in the game. They vary in size, on the mini map and ship icons, they are smal, but on the background they are massive. They appear at random when I load the game.

I also get very poor quality text on certain screens like the tutorial screen, but other screens are fine.

Has anyone else had problems like this, and how do I post screen shots?

Cheers

Dave

I hate to sound like a broken record on these forums, but that sounds like your video drivers. In your GalCiv2 folder (or subfolder...I can never remember where exactly) is a "debug.err" file. If you were to copy/paste the first 3-4 sections into a post I'm sure someone could help you identify the problem.

edit: Screen shots: using the print screen button will copy a screen shot into your clipboard. I've found the basic paint program that came with my computer makes it easy to paste into without using a lot of memory. I highly suggest running the game in windows mode as I've had the game crash when trying to alt tab between applications. Windows mode can be selected in the opening menu, options.... or by adding a w after the quotes in the shortcut.

The start of my debug follows. I am running on the latest drivers, I was wondering if some of the graphics files might be corrupt. I have some screenshots but don't know how to show them in my post. Do they need to be linked to a webpage or uploaded from my pc? Any help will be appreciated, I really want to be able to enjoy this game

pry needs to be debugged or patched or maby your graphics card is to old to run the game properly

I found this thread ( Link ) for the text. While not the same problem exactly, I guess it's worth asking if you have rebooted your system since install?

Then there's this thread as well ( Link ) again, not the same exact problem. The one post I've found that describes your same problem was never responded to.

OK, I have reinstalled the game and it is worse than ever. I'm guessiing that it does not like my computer. piekillerman, FYI, the minimum graphics card is a 32mb Direct x 9.0c card, I have a 6600GT as shown in the debug code. I can run Half Life 2 smoothly on high graphics.

Looks like another one for the bin as I can't get a refund now its been opened.

Anytime I have ever seen artifcats like that in a game it is from the graphics card overheating (I only ever seen anything like that when overclocking, but some cards run dang hot at stock now). Do you have the option to limit framerate that was added in 1.0X enabled?

If it is already enabled, try opening your case and pointing a room fan inside and try playing the game to see if it still happens. If it doesn't it is almost certainly heat related.

I have thought of the overheating element. I have installed Half Life 2, which is very graphics intensive and it does not have any problems in the game, but when I go to the menus, thwy are sometimes distorted. (I would have thought it would be the other way around). When Playing GalCiv2, as soon as I click on play game, it distortsThe default settings for temperature for my GFX car (which I can't change) is 145 C, it never gets anywhere near that. This is really confusing me, I hope its not a new computer jobby

Ok, Its seems to be a hardware problem. I had to replace my Hard Drtaive a while ago, before that all my games ran without problems. I tried playing Half Life 2 last night and while the game played fine, the menus were distorted.

Me thinks its either my memory or Graphics card, I will try swapping some ram about and see if this changes anything. I'm hopeing its not too serious as it will be a rebuild job from scratch.
