Unhappy home world?

I have been steadily improving my game as I continue playing. I can now build up a healthy economy and have enough military to prevent attacks on me and do great in trade and diplomacy and research. The only area I am lacking is morale.

In my current game I have 64% approval. Not bad but could be much better. The thing that concerns me is that evey game I play my homeworld always had the worst approval rating even with 3 entertainment centers and my taxes are only at 33%. Other planets are closer to 100% and most in the 80%+ range. It seems that my first planets steadily go down in approval as the game progresses. Like right now my homeworld has 20 Billion squirrels and 40% approval rating with 3 entertainment centers.

What am I missing that is causing this and what can I do to fix it.?

Upgrade your entertainment centers. You have to research the tech.

Virtual reality centers are the bomb.

and even then get the galactic wonders like harmony crystals, ultraspices, frictionless colthing, etc...

in the latest patch getting 75% or 100% gives you bonuses

You can solve this in several ways. You can choose politics that give you a moral bonus (Populist), pick the Moral elective "Naturally Joyous" , mine Moral resources and of course resarch up the moral tech tree. VR centers should end any moral problems if you have any of the other three bonuses.

I don't like being bothered with moral problems so I usually play with the political and the elective bonus. With this combination I am usually near 100% moral forever after I get Multi-media centers.

Remember you need more entertainment on your homeworld because the starting population is double that of a normal world.

Some people advise not building farms on your homeworld at all.

I suggest executing the ungrateful peasants. Build a colony ship launch them into the coldness of space and open the doors (decommish the ship). "Continue to beat the troops until morale improves!"

Lol, don't forget those greath Ethics.....i KNOW Neutral has one...pretty sure good does too...not sure tho

So the bigger the population the harder it is to keep high approval rating? Why is that?

Overpopulation.

You know, 25 Billion people on earth. That's what I call crowded. Don't want to live there.

Yah, earth sucks, i want more virtual reality centers and these clothes are so frictional

As for the moral problems, overpopulation is a major problem, upgrade your entertainment centers and also stick a couple of the top tax gathering thingies... what are they called... the ones i affectionally call the "satilite dish of neverending money" stock exchange!, knew it would come to me... they increase moral by 10% each, and you get to tax people more so you can lower your taxes a bit.

Also go for the +moral tradegoods and resource, and go neutral if you really want a bit of a boost (altho evil is faaaar more fun)

And if the people are still whineing about overpopulation take a farm away, that'll shut em up.

Well, hmmm.....if overpopulation is a problem then why build farms?

Farms are for planets where you can easily control there morale, like if it has moral bonuses

1-2 farms can be a very good thing on your average planet, but it also depends on how you like to play.
There are a few posts that talk about the pros and cons of the high tax/low pop and the low tax/high pop strats.
I'm somewhere in between, I like the added influence and available soldiers of planets so I put at least 1 farm on most planets unless their PQ is too low. Any more than that though, (unless I'm using an influence strat) and I don't feel that the required entertainment is justified when planets hit 20 billion and up unless I happen to have a morale resource or two and have gotten enough of the morale wonders.

Morale caps at -80% due to population... around 26 billion people... it takes a lot to keep that many happy, but once you do, the only things stopping you from getting larger are space and PQ.

WHen you mouse over the Approval in the plant screen things dont quite up. Often on Earth it will say something like I have +60% from buildings. However if you add up the morale of my buildings it will much higher. 25% from the colony, 3-4 Extreme Sports Centers(?) at 45% each and maybe some Stock Exchanges.
