This is only what I found in one of my boxes of junk. I have two other boxes that contain programs that are even on floppys. Remember the old days of loading 10 floppys for a game? I am starting a local chaprter of gamer's anonymous. We will be meeting everyday from 4:30-7:00 (Happy hour) at Dave and Buster's in Westlake Ohio at the Viewpoint Bar. I figure I can replace my gaming habit with a less expensive alcoholic habit. Anyone care to mention their all time favorite games?

What, no Q3?

My pile of games is huge. Unfortunately, I tend to buy them more than play them, so there's lots that I've not finished. I've currently gotten back into gaming after a 6-8 month lull, so I'm trying (with moderate success) to play GalCiv2, Civ4, Serious Sam 2, Guild Wars, Freespace 2, and Knights of the Old Republic, all at the same time. It doesn't begin to scratch the surface of all the games I have.

And unfort., Half Life 2: Episode 1 and SiN Episodes are right around the corner...

And yeah, I've been playing games on a PC since 1983, so I have A TON in my collection. My favorite game of all time is Doom (1 and 2)

You think? During my hour commute home Monday I started thinking about those last couple years in the Navy and all the drinking I did. In two years (mind you, only "home" for 4 months a year), I spent $12,000 in bars. Granted, some of that was overseas (loved the outdoor bars in Marseille....), but it was still $12,000 over two years spent on alcohol.

Stick to games.

PS. IDBEAGOD... nope, never played Doom.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory + etpro mod, about two years ago. Most fun I've ever had gaming in my life. Half-life 1+2 and Myth 1+2 get high marks (why oh why hasn't there been a game like Myth in the last six years? Or did I just miss it?). Prince of Persia: Sands of Time for the Xbox was superb. Halo has the title for most-satisfying-to-kill AI enemies in an FPS. The most recent surprise has been a game called Scratches, haven't played it that much, it's Myst-like which isn't my style but my god the atmosphere is... wow. In the first forty-five minutes of playing it I actually jumped in my chair when music from the game started playing, it was so perfect and so creepy. Hard to say what my favorite game of all time is., although the release of Spore will make that a bit easier by the looks of the trailer. (For those who haven't seen it: Link)

Favourite games of all time:
Freespace 2
Homeworld (the original, the story was awesome!)
MOO2 / GalCiv2 (similar, but different, games, that are both totally great)
Half-Life 2
Lords of the Realms 1/2 (#3 is bullocks)
The Stronghold series (castles!)
The Total War series (Come to me, Medieval 2!!!)
X-com: Apocalypse (I've played this game soooo much...)
Tyrian 2000 (best vertical scroller shooter ever)
Raptor (second best vertical scroller shooter ever)
Need For Speed 2: Hot pursuit (the original cop vs driver, + you could drive busses down ravines)
Dune 2
Command & Conquer (first one, another classic)
Elder Scrolls: Morrowind (better than Oblivion in some ways)
Starcraft (Zerg VS marine! Fight!)

And so many more I can't recall off the top of my mind... the other day I was cleaning the PC room and I realised just how many game boxes I had laying around.

Then I did a quick average of all the games and of how much I paid for them. In short, I could have bought a nice car if I had never bought any games.

Bug games are better

Skelton42 I was in San Diego when I was in so I spent my money in Tijuana. I maybe spent a totla of 20.00 a night. (Not including the donkey show.

Veblen... Myst just confused the crap out of me. I spent more time reading the walk-thrus then playing the game. little too much problem solving for my taste. I love a good mind bender but Christ, that game made me take notes.

As far as scarey games I would have to say either Silent Hill or F.E.A.R. tops my charts. F.E.A.R. actually made me jump out of my seat. Silent Hill just gave me constant goose bumps all over my body.

Hollowman, what do you honestly think about GuildWars? Their alpha and beta program was extremely fast paced, we are talking hourly fixes. It seemed like a full time job. I can't imagine those geeks sitting there reprogramming that fast. It's amazing to me how some people can think in different languages. Glad they are releasing "factions" none the less, I think today or sometime soon.
I have a programmer friend of mine over right now working on my system trying to get GC2 running properly. Doing a low level format with 3 sweeps and playing on my other two comps. If you like Guildwars take a look at Roma Victa it's a streaming world along the lines of FFXI. Still too many exploits for me, I don't know if I will go retail when it's done.

Psio,

I have not played Guild Wars as much as I would've liked, but what I have done so far is cool. It loads fast, updates to the game load rapidly (and yeah, it seems there's some update every day!), and the game plays very smoothly on my PC (and it sure is pretty). There were some laggy issues first few weeks of release, but that seems to have passed (we'll see what happens this weekend, with the release of Factions).

I'm LANning with friends this weekend, and my primary goal is to play LOTS of GW, so I'll be able to tell you more come Monday.

I bought it because I suspected it would be good and I wanted to reward NCSoft for making an MMO that had no subscription fee. So even if I never play it, I feel I did the right think by buying the game!

Hollowman take a serious look at The Chronicles of Spellbound. I have a feeling I am going to be dedicating some serious chair time to that game.

Ah the greats... Its funny to see someone admits to playing Redneck Rampage!

Personally Its sad to see you skipped the second two splinter cell games. The first was good, but the second two were really superior IMO. Anywho heres my list:

Splinter Cell series
Half lives
Tachyon the Fringe (Gotta love Bruce Campbell)
UT (All)
Comand and Conquer series(Red Alert2 has been my favorite)
Planet Side
City of Heroes
Lego Starwars
Gunship 2000
Chuck Yeagers Comabt Simulator
Doom series
Jedi Knight 1,2 Outcast, academy
Diablo 1,2 (LoD expansion)
Mech warrior series
MOO 1,2,3
Wolfenstein series
Warcraft 3
Delta Force 1,2, Extreme

... Wow that list could go on for quite aways, but thought I would just hit the high lights!

Games that i will love for EVER:-

In no particular order because they r all unique treasures.

GC 2 (of course)
Age of wonders 1 and 2 and shadowmagic
Heros of Might and Magic I to IV plus all the spin offs
Civilisation 1 and 2
Hearts Of Iron 1 (not keen on 2)
Freelancer
GC (the original)
Sacred
Europa Universalis 1 and 2
Master Of Orion 1 and 2 (MOO3 was the biggest dissappointment EVER in my gaming world ) (Please, please stardock NEVER do that with GC, if u get bored just leave it perfect and work on another project)
Diablo 1 and 2 and expansions
Imperialism
Alpha Centauri
Warlords I to IV (1st on amiga not pc)
Elite (spectrum 48k)
Avalon and Dragontorc of Avalon (spectrum 48k)
Out of the shadows (spectrum 48k)

I have owned literally 10,000's of games over the years but those above defined my gaming world. The rest just gather dust. I can also confirm gaming is cheaper then drink, as i too have tried both. Also more fulfilling!

Spellborn looks cool on a first look. Is it going to be subscription based?

ZOMG! I just quite World of Warcraft after it sucked something like 1 and a 1/2 years out of my life.
Before WoW was CIV3 (totally awsome). For casual gaming I play Dead or Alive 3 on my x box.
Civ3 was a classic and I think I played it for almost 4 years. That is getting your money's worth.
I would like to say I got my money's worth from WoW, but ... LOL I spent alot on that game. THis is the first PC game I've bought since WoW was realsed.

Not really a hardcore gamer, but I've played my share. There's a few that stand out for me;

Doom series
Quake series
Far Cry (probably my favorite FPS of all time, amazing game)
The last Duke Nukem (hail to the king baby!)

Of all the games I've played, I think GC2 has held my interest longest, except for an old BBS game called Trade Wars which I think GC2 will surpass pretty soon.

I don't know if anyone has ever heard of this game, it was the first one I ever played:
Sammy Lightfoot on the Apple II (5.25" floopy...lol)

Ever since then I have played all kinds of computer games from GATO on my Apple IIGS to Doom 3 and Oblivion.

Some of my favorite games include Load Runner, Galaga, and Bolder Dash as well as newer games like Oblivion and Warhammer 40k Dawn of War.
