Forcing ship textures?

Is it possible?

I love shipbuilding, love it but Im stuck without ship textures because of my card (Gforce 4 MX 440) Is there any way I can force the game to use ship textures even if the game crawls to a halt because of it? I would be very interested in knowing. Thanks.

You'd be doing yourself a favor to just update your card instead. You can get cards pretty cheaply on ebay and you don't need the latest, hottest card to run GalCiv II. Your problems are going to get worse, not better, because the old cards just can't handle the new games and you'll be in the same situation on any of the other new games too. If you're going to spend the money on games, it's a good idea to also spend some on a card that can run them. Just a suggestion.

You know that RAM has alot do with texture so maybe getting a RAM upgrade will do the trick.

I already knew about that stardock knowledge base which is why I was asking if I could in some way force it. Long shot, I know.

To the other reply....

These are the games I play: Civ IV, Warcraft III and this, they all run great and I do not miss any visual effects (spells effects, resolution, settings to max, etc...) I am not a person that buys games non stop. Maybe I dont need the latest greatest card but I need a better card, which to me basicly means the same thing and is a shame, my comp is decent enough 1.5 gigs of ram, 2 ghz athlon....Money doesnt grow on trees and I just bought this game so putting down more cash just to see ship textures is a bust. Your suggestion really irritates me, no offense.

There's a program called 3DAnalyze that can get the game to show the textures. I think there's a link on the wiki that has more info on what settings you should use for it.

Eh sorry, didn't mean to irritate you. Games get more powerful and hardware-intensive day by day. If you don't play many games that won't matter to you much. If you do, they pretty much force you to pack in more RAM and get a new fx card every few years.
Was just trying to help, sorry.

unfortunately the Gf4 MX line was a bad card from the day of release ...

I know money does not grow on trees but still...
almost every low end card is more powerfull than what you have right now
(and you are right the processor and amount of ram are alright, although quite standard among gamers now)

Thank you very much Vita, was able to google the program, install it and now I have textures yay! I wasnt able to find any mention of the program in the galciv wiki section though, if you or anyone else could point me in the right direction I would love to read some info to try to maximize its use, either way that would be just gravy....ship textures wee!

If someone does, it won't be me...I already gave you some good advice and got slapped for it.

It looks like the info is listed under the technical problems section of the wiki. It basically says to check all the options under Hardware Limits (caps bits) except emulate Other DX8.1 caps. Personally I only have the pixel shaders and the max. sim. textures checked.
