My graphic talent, or graphic creativity is pretty awful. My drawning skills never progressed beyond drawing stick figures and even those are bad So as I saw many cool ship designs coming out I never really held much hope for me,,, as my designs were functional not aesethetic. And when I say functional... I mean fictionally functional since I doubt a ship with missles shooting out at bizarre angles and lasers pointing at each other is a good engineering design. SO I'm playing my latest game last night and needed a good solid "Large" class ship to regain my dominance in military For the first time I decided to plop just a couple of the "extras" on my ship and shockingly in just a few minutes I'd created a really neat design that I actually like to look at. Pics are below. If you've been just "playing the game", at some point spend a few extra minutes with the large hull (easiest to work with if you ask me) and put some extras on it. You'll be surprised whatjust 5 minutes will produce and what you might come up with!

note: sorry about them being so dark... I need to up the gamma in the game.

Not too shabbie.... I usually stick with cheap startrek rip offs myself ( I too can only draw BAD stick-figures)
I usually try to hide my weapons/engines/defences by making them as small as possible so as not to detract from the "aestetics" of the design, but I like the way you placed your "big guns"

Another easy way to hide the weaponry is to rotate it so that when placed its actually inside the ship rather than outside.

yep, good looking ship. I like the orange color of the light sources. How is this changed? I haven't seen this color in any of the components.

I am not an artsy craftsy type myself but as in all thing in life symmetry is everything.

JP: Be careful making ships with 1hp. While they have their uses later in the game (cargo hull lots of engines and 1 weapon to hunt down transports), relying on a fleet of them will get you killed.
