Defensive planet-based improvments to weak?

I wil start with saying i really like this game. But in my openion defensive imporvments are curently not worth building.

1. They take up waluable building spots. I think its better to build somthing that produses somting on those spots insted of "wasting" titles.
2. If you are pushed all the way back to your plantets, you are most likly loosing anyway. And if you are not you can focus on killing the transports, escorted or not.
3. The AI seems to be cripeling itself with building a lot of this imporovments, efectivly hurting themself.

I got some ideas for making those improvments better:
- Mabye give them bonuses, somthing like + morale and + pop growth on the host plantet.
- Or Mabye let those imporovments be build outside of the normal titles on the planet. It wil still cost to build them and they shuld have maintenance but they wil not hurt the planet that bad in the long run.

My planetary defense systems usually take more than two weeks.
OK, jokes aside. I share your points. My idea for them would be that they should work like Star Base Defenses.
Giving the planet a certain defense when there is no ship in orbit (like in MoO). But not stackable because otherwise you wouldn't bother getting ships there in time for defense and simply throw all of your ships into offense instead.
But at the same time it would make you less prone to sneak attacks, if there would be any.

Nooooo! If you make them better, then the computer's planets will be harder to conquer!

Because of course, you're right, I never use them myself.

I think there should be more planet defense improvmets that could be researched, onced researced we could upgrade them. More stuff to research.

the planetary defense improvement doesn't seem to help too greatly.. the orbital fleet coordinator is a nice improvement, but the best way to defend your planet is probably higher population. If you have over 20b population it'll take the computer a couple of transports to conquer your planet, effectively giving you time to get some ships in orbit.
just my 2bc.

I've used the spin control..... it worked, and I've used the hyperion fleet defense as a last ditch effort, didn' work.

I agree. +25% soldiering is worthless most of the time since the AI:s usually are so bad at it anyway, while I at the same time fly around with 120 in soldiering.
It would be better if it added a fixed soldiering-value on the planet. That would probably make it much harder to invade an AI planet that had build planetary defense and would also make the more destructive invasion tactics more useful.

I agree that they should atleast have a moral attachment to them....i mean, if I lived on a planet (ahem) and we were at war with an alien race (more advanced or not) I'd be a little happier knowing that my planet has something to combat an invasion ....just saying

Agree with all of you, they're very weak right now. Give them something like +100% in soldiering, non stackable, one per planet. That would perhaps make them somewhat more usefull, since the AI really wastes space with them.

I mean, last game I've invaded a enemy planet with a population of 1.5 billions in a Dread Lord style with just one soldier. (I've had forgotten to fill the transport up...). I've thought, oh well, my bad luck and I've used planetary bombardement since I thought that I would lose anyway...

Hah.. I've had conquered the planet with my lonesome guy. Even though the AI had a planetary defense building...

Still pretty hilarious though.

Planetary defenses are last ditch. I never rely on them. Never build them except for a fleet manager once in a while on a quick build as needed.

I concentrate on mobile fleets to prevent the opponent from reaching my worlds to begin with.

Planetary defenses are good in that they may force an opponent to use more than one transport to take a world - other than that, they are static defenses, and static defenses are always defenses of the last resort.

Static defenses are overwhelmed, if not at first then eventually. So the best defense is really, a good offense.
