Neutral research center

This may have already been brought up or something somewhere and i just missed it, but what's the deal with the neutral research center technology. i didn't research it first because it didn't look like it did anything, then i decided to give it a shot thinking that the tech tree might just be bugged. but no, nothing happened at all other than the tech perfected screen popping up telling me how powerful the research center is. is this not in yet? what's the deal?

I just won a game where the tech victory was made possible by those bad-boys. What you have to do is upgrade buildings / build the neutral research centers manually. They're worth 22 research points a piece, I believe, as opposed to the discovery sphere which is like 18, or something around there. I didn't realize that I had them until I conquered a planet that wasn't fully-developed. They're worth the investment, though.

Its in 1.1. It gives 22 tubes whereas the discovery sphere gives 20. The big bonus of it is that is branches off of research centers which means you can access it MUCH earlier than discovery spheres.

Yep. Definitely in the latest beta, and definitely making neutral look viable.

You need a beta version (or the soon to be released 1.1) and as of now you still need to manually upgrade all your research buildings. But the up side is they're either equivilent in production to the highest research center or better, I forget which.

One note, if you are playing a save from an earlier build, they will not appear until you start a new game with the beta build.

But they do rock for neutrals. I don't even spend much time on the Research path now - unless going for tech victory - go right for Good/Evil path and you can get them very quickly.

I'm not a playing a beta, I'm just playing 1.0X.2 and the research center tech is there, but the center itself is not. was that added in the last update to prepare for 1.1?

The neutral alignment buildings got left out of 1.0x. They are in the current beta and will, obviously, be in 1.1.
