yeah I've had it happen a couple of times, it happens when they ask you to go to war with someone and you refuse.

@OP,

Do you mean do they refuse to help you if you are attacked? I have never had that happen but I would assume it is possible.

The alliance will be broken if you refuse to help them when they are attacked, as Wargizmo said. That happens to me all the time.

As far as breaking just for the hell of it, I've not seen it do that.

I mean sorta like if I dont trade enough techs with them or come to there aid enough stuff like that.
