Planet Quality - need help

My racial bonus is +10% to planet quality, and currently playing a metaverse game. When I colonize a planet, I'm not sure if I receive the planet quality bonus. For example, I just colonized a PQ 18. There are 17 green, buildable tiles, 1 city tile, and 1 yellow tile. I thought that the +10% kicked in when initially colonizing a planet (e.g. the 18 PQ would be a 20 PQ).

Any insight would be appreciated.

Noticing something; a planet is displaying a PQ of 12, and there is a red circle above it indicating a tile is buidable. But the planet has 10 built tiles, a city, and a yellow tile (unbuildable).

I think the PQ bonus is represented in tiles only in your homeworld.
For the other colonized and conquered planets it only impacts your maximum population.

Any decimals are rounded down as well. Thus a PQ 18 with a +10% will give a (18/10=1.8, rounded down=1) 1 PQ boost, which is probably the one showing up as a yellow.

I always play with PQ bonus 10%!

I always assumed that If you colonise a PQ 11, it becomes (11/10 =1,1 =1 PQ increase) a PQ 12 the moment you colonise it. Then you should have (12-1 city tile) = 11 green tiles to build on.

You can convert a yellow tile to green with the tech "soil enhencement", adding 1 PQ for each converted tile
After this, you can convert any orange tile to green with the tech "habitat improvement", adding 1 PQ for each converted tile.
Finally, you can convert any red tile to green with the tech "terraformning", adding a final 1 PQ for each converted tile.

Not: I always assumed this, but never actually checked!

So, two remarks for Kassad:
- Did wou check that your PQ 18 was a PQ 17 before you colonized it?
- Keep in mind that you have to count in the "city" tile too.

AdmiralZ, it's even easier then that. The PQ bonus doesn't work. It only works on your home planet, but on the other planets it just ups the number, without giving you any more tiles to work with.

I'm playing under beta .018. I'm almost certain there is something going on here that I do not understand. Yes, I count the City tile as buildable. In a game right now there is a planet that has a red circle meaning that there is a buildable tile somewhere. But after close examination, there are no buildable tiles only a yellow tile.

Well... spending the 3 points on the racial ability is sort of a waste?

Hi!

Currently (1.1 beta4b) it is. As dev's stated it should be fixed in 1.1 final.

Oh, it's a bug. I thought it might have been by design. Thanks.

Cool. All the other inequalities of race picks were addressed in betas so that makes for all of them squashed.

So, no one answered my quarry yet, does a PQ 33 planet have 33 actual tiles that are usable? what about those freaky higher ones?

Hello kido,

Answering your question. A PQ33 planet do not have actual 33 usable tiles.

I will tell you what I found by my own experience. This is information may not be 100% accurate.

Each planet have a Planet Class (the number you see before you colonize them). The number of tiles is somewhere from 40 to 70% of the planet class. This is random. Additionally, that planet will have a enhancement potentional (green, yellow and red tiles) that will vary randomly from planet to planet.

Your PQ bonus will determine the PQ of the planets you colonize. That PQ will only affect the maximum population of your colonies, except for your homeworld, whose number of useable tiles will indeed increase with your PQ bonus.

Hope this answer your question.

Actualy in my experience PQ has always matched build tiles (not yellow red or other tiles as well as build tiles). unless of course you have that PQ bonus skill or some other PQ bonus steps in such as one of those ethical alignment picks.

I have only seen PQ bonus work properly on your home planet as well as any planets you are outright given (there was senate vote about who should colonize a new planet, I won and the planet had double the typical build tiles).

Also one of the first times I played I kept seeing a special event where an enemy of mine found some thing or another that boosted his PQ bonus. When I took the planet away from him it had a PQ of 45 with 45 buildable tiles.

I can't wait for this bug to be squashed myself...
