bring back the ultimate weapon

for an expansion pack we realy need to bring back TERROR STARS the game just doesn't feel right without them theres nothing to look forward at the end of the millitary tree (yes i know theres the black hole weapons but their just not the same). you should give TERROR STARS only to evil civs, Give the neutral civs the GREY STARS which if fired at a 0 planet turns it into a class 6-7, and give good civs the BRIGHT STARS which because they are good surronds a planet in an impenitrable force field not killing anyone but rendering the planet useless for the rest of the game.

I have read that Terror Stars are going to be in the first expansion. I'm eagerly awaiting them too.
But every alignment should be able to use terror stars. Why would the Altarians for example care if they obliterated a planet full of Drengin or Yor.

Because they are GOOD. Caring is what they do. Terror Star technology should be evil only, obliterating a planet containing intelligent life is evil by definition. I do beleive however that good and neutral civs should get a variation of Terror star technology. Neutral civilisations could be given mobile military starbases that would provide military support, but would not engage the enemy directly. Good civilsations could be given something more creative, such as the ability to build artificial planets.

New toys would need to be added to all factions, but planet killing should be an exclusively evil feature.

Good Civilizations chould be able to build Dyson spheres. As for bonuses.. how about extra influence/extra morale/extra economy and 50% pop growth..plus.. it'll look cool

i dont know, if a neutral race, and a planet poses a threat to them in owning the universe, why not blow it up and save the lives of there soldiers lol? is that evil ?

It's the Galciv 2 equivalent of nuking Nagasaki and Hiroshima. I'd say no.

i think it could be a good idea.. but it would be expensive to maintain and also would require i think ammo..

this ammo would be a addon only available for the tiny ships and take up all the space the base ship gives (minituization would allow for bigger engines to move the ammo to the star)

the star would have three effects

one wipe the life off the planet (evil) and destroy all items on the surface

two enhance the planet (one time effect per planet) a tile or two added) (not sure what else coudl be done?)

three convert all people to worship your civilisation (instant turn)

however the ammo should be expensive to build.. where even if you had a planet that could pump out a fully decked out huge ship in a week... this would take 10-40 turns to build PER SHOT.

and make the star mobile and have some enhancments related to the moral guidelines...

Sorry - war is war. Of course, good factions shouldn't be able to nuke planets, but evil one, why not? C'mon they don't care so much about their own citizens, so what can stop them from blowing up planet full of tree-hugging Altarians ?

Imho the real life equivalent of GalCiv good is the ancient catholic inquisition. They're not good in the "we help everyone and let's just hug Lord Kona"-way but they're good in the "now follow our rules and orders of kindness or be obliterated" way of being good.

(In other words, they're the religious right of our real world. If your with them: good. If you're not, well, you can begin praying very fast.)

Yey! Terror Stars!

I reckon evil civs should be able to build Terror Stars to destroy * SOLAR SYSTEMS *, Good Civilisations should be able to create new artificial planets of very high quality, and neutral civilisations should get some fleet technologies let them blow the Terror Stars out of the sky.

I'm not a terror star fan, but restricting them is a silly idea. It'd be like preventing 'good' civs from using the best weapons, because they kill too many people. Good civs have no problems slaughtering the entire population of a planet in ground combat, after all.

Dyson spheres are an absurd idea, since anyone with the materials technology to build one wouldn't need one anymore. Ringworlds or Orbitals are a much better idea, since they don't require several systems-worth of resources, excellent timing to prevent the star being destabilised, or beyond-insane materials strength. Actually, throwing the odd Orbital into a system would be an interesting way to get a few more 'tiles' to build things on - although they'd cost absolutely ridiculous amounts of resources. Maybe a new, very high-tech version of starbases? I imagine this is what they're doing with terror stars, since they're just movable, armed starbases. The 'nice-guy' option would be to make such a structure habitable.

A race can be good and xenophobic. And when it comes to defending your children from evil, slaver space monsters, anything goes.

Really destroying the whole planet and conquering it are no different, in both cases you commit genocide.

Of course they can, if you take a planet by planet choice.

Considering this will probably end similar to every other last Terror Start thread, here is what I've heard the devs say.

1) No orbital bombardment, ever. Just Terror Stars.
2) They can't blow solar systems up anymore, just planets, to make things easier to handle.
3) They'll be in Dark Avatar, where you play a campaign as the Drengin, and it'll be with cool spying stuff (Yay! Espionage!)

But we haven't been told how they work yet....
