oops I killed 19 million of my own citizens... with no repercussions!!

Heres how I killed everyone:

A Class 10 planet had 24 million people on it, they were overpacked and understantably unhappy about it. What fed all these people was a single Tile of +300% food, with a xeno farm on it, and the colony tile (giving me 29 MT of grain/week and even more room to grow, not bad for one tile).

So.. being the responsible ruler I dissasembled the Xeno Farm, planning on juggling my food stocks to maintain the level I've got and not grow anymore. That left 5 MT of food (from the colony tile), and an end of turn. I knew it would be ugly when I hit next turn....

POOF! population: 5 Million. not a tear in the house... not repurcussions, no shame shame, no population chart plummet. just 19 million people dead, business as usual.... .... can we say bug? well, maybe not bug, but something a beta tester should have tried so it could have been identified and fixed in the code or whatever... I mean I should have at least got a guilt trip GNN report or something!! And the fact a good 10% of my population vanished over a 1 week period should have shown as a verticle plunge in the population history-chart.

Hmmm..maybe in order to make up the food shortage the population turned to canibalism?
The survivors of course would not want to spread word of their 'missing' bretheren now would they?
Sounds like a cover-up!
19 millions dead in a week though-I reckon those 5 million people left are very fat......

They could just have went elsewhere, nothing saying they actually died they just stopped paying taxes.

It's too bad the pop just doesnt start dropping like when the Approval is really low. That would give you *Some* time to rebuild the farms. 19 Billion people dying in one week is kind of... Unrealistic

*Thinks of some African Nations*

good point

true didn't think about AIDS, civil war, starvation, malaria, TB, dysentry, cholera, President Mugabe or indeed syphalis-but for a technologically advanced society I'm still going to have to go for the meat freezers-they must have pretty big ones in the future right?

there should at least be a huge drop in approval as a penalty for your massive food cut

Well there are the ships that bring you your tourists (invisible ships I might add!), maybe they booked passage on those. Yes, all 19 million of them

the thing is, you didn't kill 19 million of your citizens. You killed 19 *b*illion. See, don'tcha feel better now?

They just immigrated. That's where all the population growth from the other civilizations came from. *nod nod* That'd be an interesting feature... Refugees. xD

10 times? A billion is 1000 times a million!

Oh man, I laughed so hard when I read that.

Well... unless evil works on some sort of exponential scale of some sort... then I guess it would work.

And that is why the food bonus tiles are a total waste of game space.
I have the same problem with the 100% tiles too. The planet gets way too overcrouded.

But you're right, there is no penalty for getting rid of the excess by adjusting the food supply. In fact, it is just the opposite. If the approval is down around 40% with 23B galc's and I take out the farm or replace it on a non-bonus tile, then with the next turn the population will drop to between 5B and 11B galc's with an approval of 100%.

Killing galc's is the fastest, most effecient way to raise your approval rating.
And the real kicker is, once you have a higher approval rating, you can raise taxes. It is quite possible to end up making several hundred more per turn with a much lower population.

My taxes are usually between 50 and 75%, and I can easily maintain an overall approval rating of between 98 and 100%, simply by keeping the population below the 20B mark. All it takes is a single farm and a single matched entertainment center per world, with a few of the morale improvements somewhere along the line. For the problem worlds, an extra entertainment center should do the trick.

I always go for at least Xeno Farm 2 and then the Virtual Reality Centers, which is Xeno Farm 3 level. Then if I want more population I will go for the Xeno Farm 3. But I never, ever use the food bonus tiles.

Oh, and galc's are "Galactic Citizens". I just made up the term galc. It matches the GalCiv2, too. lol

The +300 Farming tiles are very good in my opinion. The economic bonuses of having a high population are just enourmous. Not so much from taxes, but from trade. If you have all your trade routes from the one planet, and that planet has a very high pop, and you also surround that planet with economic starbases with +trade income modules you're looking at some seriously fat income right there.

As well as the trade farm tactic, the +300 tiles are also very good for population exporting, you can set the planet to make troop transports and then when you want to invade or need some settlers somewhere you have a huge population to draw from.

They all just went on diets for that week... and stopped paying taxes. No big deal. Happens all the time in real life.

Exaclty, if you happen to stumble across a class 10+ planet or above with a 100% to food production or a 300% bonus to food production you would be a fool not to devote that planet to purely making money. One of my modest planets at the moment (lowish population but growing steadily, with about 15 banking centers) is producing 600bc. Once the population takes off it will be the jewel of the empire.

Troop transports are also good for population redistribution, to a planet that needs to bolster its population to ibncrease growth rate or for defence. Besides you dont need to build the transport at the planet you wish to pick up the population from.

Actually, it could be worse... in British English, a billion is one million millions... the US equivalent of trillion. So, those billions of people dead are far larger in quantity

Just something to note for Rogue Metro, but population will indeed start to plummet if you tank your approval rating.

I had a late game empire that was doing very well. And out of boredom, I decided to see how hard it would be to trigger the revolt event where some of your civ breaks away from you.

So I put up a massive tax hike, and tanked my economy. IT took a long time to happen, but after a while, the event did happen. But long before the event happened, my population dropped off sharply. By the time the event happened, my empire of about 49 or so planets had a total population of 20 billiion, and I was losing about 4 billiion a week.

I have also had planets successfully use the +%300 tiles, though it required also having at least one morale bonus tile on the same planet, AND multiple entertainment structures, in addition to having a few Morale mines. I will concede that even then, I only got this to work on one mid quality planet. A pop bonus tile on a high quality planet with the largest farms was too hard to keep happy.

The +100% tiles are very usable, just make sure you can put down 2 entertainment centers.
