Black Screen With Sound, and a Curser

I just installed the game and tried running it. Received the Black Screen, Curser is only visible object. I tried updating the game to Version 1.10[b4].018. It did not solve anything. I updated my Nvidia Graphics card with the DirectX 9.0c. Still no changes.
I do receive a message to switch Resolution from 800 x 600, but its already applied to the correct resolution. Is there anything else I am required to do?

Thank You

Post your debug log. Located in the main Game folder you installed to.

You can also manually edit your screen resoulution in the prefs.ini file located at \My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2. Open it with notepad. Edit the following lines:

[Video]
DisplayWidth=1152
DisplayHeight=864
ColorDepth=32
Fullscreen=0

First two are self -explanatory; make sure the Depth is set to 32. If you want to run full screen, set that to 1; if you want windows mode (which may be the way t ogo until you getthe game working) use 0. Save and close.

Occasionally I get this, but for me, it only ever happens in the middle of a game, and restarting Galciv2 fixes it. Wierd.

Hey this happens to me too. I start the game and I have a blank black screen taking up about half the screen in the upper left hand corner. I can see my mouse, but it is the windows mouse not the game cursor. I can hear sound and all but can't see anything or click on anything.

I have a GeForce 5500 and directX 9. I run Age of Empire III and Battle for Middle Earth 2 with no problem, I can't imagin why this game is giving me trouble. I havn't installed the update yet, but according to the above post that doesn't make a difference.
