Will Galactic Civ2 run...

on my system?

I've looked at the system requirements, but past experience has taught me to ask if I have any doubts.

System stats are 2.6Ghz, 256mb ram on XP. My graphics card is the built in Intel 82845G Extreme graphics (64mb). AFAIK it doesn't have T&L.

Any comments greatly appreciated.

Although the RAM has caused a few problems when >512 on an xp, it sounds like it will run.

Well the game slows very much if i have more than 3 ships or 2 fleest on the screen ... celeron 2.8 512 good ram and fx5200 large+ galaxies plyable only na tactical zoom wich sucks

@butcherski
Haven't you got well over the system req tho? That seems a bit extreme.

Butcher, that has to be some other problem. I use a work-designed rig, and it runs smooth with anything less than 500 ships.

I have the same graphics and a little less ram but it works just fine .

So I shouldn't miss out on anything and it will run fine. Awesome, I'll be picking it up soon. Thanks, people.

I wouldn't play galciv2 on such a computer if it were me

Just make sure you go into the Options/Video and turn down some of the setting like Anti Aliias. Your system really is not the best for this game, in fact it is very marginal. You will want at least a 2GB swap file as well. Games typically take over a GB on any map larger than small. If you can manage it put another 512MB of ram in.

I wouldn't run XP on its own with that little RAM never mind a game on top. IS the graphics memory shared as well? If so you have just lost a quarter of your RAM to that. I would STRONGLY suggest you pick up another half gig of RAM at least, if not a gig. They are reasonably cheap these days and it will be probably the best investment you can get for your system without shelling out on a huge gfx card.

FOOL:

To answer your original question, yes it will run but you might need to tweak system and/or game settings to make it run as smooth as possible.

As others have pointed out, Windows XP is very resource hungry, I would strongly suggest you upgrade the RAM on your system, add another 512M RAM minimum if not increase total size to 1 GB. This will not only improve your gaming experience, it will drastically improve your overall experience with Windows.

Fool try out the demo and see if its works fine with your computer.

I'm perfectly willing to sacrifice top-end graphical effects. What I want to know is whether it will run smoothly with large maps, and the bare minimum of graphic options (enough to see nice planets and ships tho).

I have a huge swapfile available so that's ok.

Fool try out the demo and see if its works fine with your computer.

Two words: Dial up. The demo would have been perfect for me otherwise.

Since most don't have your exact specs, it's difficult to tell what will be acceptable, especially for you. I can only restate what others have: the amount of memory in your system is the minimum for GalCiv2, is low for gaming in general, and will thus make GalCiv2 run a bit slow.

I imagine the graphics, especially during the battle scenes, will chug a bit as well. According to Intel's site, your graphics chip is DX9 compatible, but not all features are supported. Exactly what isn't supported, and whether Stardock uses these features, is not known to me. Perhaps an email to Stardock would help you with this.
