Adding abilities to hulls

So, I Downloaded and installed Coplann’s excellent Babylon 5 Nova model, and got it to work in game. Then I thought: Self, what’s the Nova famous for? Well, in GROPOS, it was a troop transport. So I decided to give it the ability to carry troops:
[Hull Name="CargoHull5"]
[DisplayName]Cargo Hull[DisplayName]
[Description]When the Earth Alliance needs to land troops, they call out this heavy ship[Description]
[Cost]55[Cost]
[Size]55[Size]
[SensorRange]3[SensorRange]
[HP]10[HP]
[Model]Nova[Model]
[Thumbnail]NOVA-01a[Thumbnail]
[Speed]4[Speed]
[MaxCapacity]1000[MaxCapacity]
[Ability]Troops[Ability]
[Category]Cargo[Category]
[Logistics]5[Logistics]
[Hull]

I built one, tried to launch it, and got the "how many troops" screen. But unfortunately, the screen told me that Earth (pop 5b) had 0 available. Does anyone know if I’ve done something wrong? Or is it not possible to add abilities to hulls directly? If it isn’t I’d love it if Stardock would add that ability to one of their upgrades...

Also: It seems impossible to have one type of ship defense cover all types of attacks. I created the tech “organic armor”, and did some fiddling with it’s attributes. It seems to only cover the sort of attack listed first in the “class” line. If you add a second or third class line, those seem to do nothing...
Again, am I missing something? Or is this designed that way?

maybe designed that way, but we wont know until Stardock says something about it.

as for the transport stuff I dont know. try to add the Nova as empty Cargo-Hull and then add troop modules yourself to see if it works at all.

btw, prior to the release of the Omega Class Destroyers the Novas where the main capital ship of the Earth Force, though not that many survived the Earth-Minbari War.

I think the problem may lie with the Category field. To really hold people it has to be Capacity, not Cargo.

I just tried something else. Putting 2000 in a single advanced troop carrier. I got the same results you did, it would not carry any troops at all.

@ Coplann: Yeah, I tried that, it works. What’s weird is that I don’t get a message telling me that what I want to try is impossible, just that it tells me there’s 0 available. But I can turn it into a troop transport the traditional way...

And as for the original design: you are correct, but I really dig it is a troop transport. I’d love to be able to create specialized hulls, and not just different looks for the same suspects...

Oh, and have you seen pics. of the Nova X class? It’s basically an Early model Omega. Pretty sweet stuff...

@ Moosetek13:
I tried it as “cargo”. No change. Good idea, though. I wonder if Stardock might let us make some of these changes come 1.2...

Oh, something else I’d love to do, along those lines: let different modules have different planetary invasion techniques. If you want to use mass-drivers, you’d have to equip ‘em...
