Ship combat

Has there been discussion about having fleet combat based on an initiative roll. For example, a random number from 1 through 6 is generated. The highest roll fires first. Modifieres to the roll could weight the outcome (e.g. attacker receives +1, always wins ties, etc...).

Yes. Internally.

The thinking is that in a future expansion to have initiative.

It would be on a ship by ship basis.

Who does the attacking gets a bonus. The speed of the ships would give bonuses. Special components on a ship could enhance the bonus as well.

Are there any plans to expand the system so the player with the initiative gets to choose how to attack, I don't mind not being able to control ships but I'd like a bit of choice when attacking (similar to the planet invasion options).

eg Option 1: Go in with all guns blazing, first attack but -20% defence
Option 2: Adopt defensive formation, +20% defence but fire alternately (with left over ships firing at the end)
Option 3: Find weak points in your opponents defences and attack, +30% attack but opponent gets first shots.
Option 4: Attack cargo ships, defender fires two rounds first but attackers then target cargo ships are before moving onto other ships (allows suicide attacks on transports).

And possibly a couple of defensive options.
eg Option 1: Flee! Attackers fire two rounds but then combat ends
Option 2: Return fire all guns blazing, +10% attack -10% defence
Option 3: No bonuses, normal combat

It would be really cool if you could also have components that were really big (so that you'd have to have cargo ships/large hulled ships to use them but gave bonuses to the fleet they were in.
eg Jamming eqipment, -10% attack to opponents fleet
Command module (for organising your fleet) +10% attack to your own fleets

Of course maybe all of this would be a programming nightmare and be really hard to make the ai use them effectively but I would really like to have some options when my fleets are being attacked.

Draginol/Frogboy.. a request.. is there a way to control what ship Jewlery componenet goes into which pile during the ship creation aspect of the game???

that is a feature I am sure many would like....

i.e. one column has the most used, and one has the least ysed.. etc...
